New James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" sees the super spy out for revenge on a mission that takes him to Austria, Italy and South America.
Actor Daniel Craig is back as the secret agent, after critics and cinema-goers hailed his debut in "Casino Royale", and the first blonde Bond looks set to continue the role longer term.
"We have talked about doing some more films with him and he seems very happy to do that," said co-producer, Barbara Broccoli. "So we will do it one at a time."
First details of the 22nd installment in the Bond franchise were unveiled on Thursday at Pinewood studios in London.
Co-producer Michael G Wilson said the title was taken from a short story by Ian Fleming, the author who created Bond.
"We thought it was an intriguing title and referenced what is happening to Bond and what happens in the film," he told reporters.
According to the synopsis, Bond girl Camille, played by Ukrainian-born Olga Kurylenko, leads the secret agent to Dominic Greene, member of a mysterious organization and a ruthless businessman, seeking to control huge natural resources.
The plot follows on directly from "Casino Royale", as Bond aims to uncover the truth about Vesper, the beauty who betrayed him. He discovers that she was blackmailed by Greene's organization.
"James Bond is after revenge, and Camille is after revenge & They have slightly different goals, but in the end they are going to have to collaborate," Kurylenko told reporters.
Wilson said "Quantum" contained about twice as many action sequences as "Casino Royale" which was praised for relying less on gadgets and special effects and making Bond more realistic and vulnerable.
The villain Greene is played by Frenchman Mathieu Amalric, who starred in the Oscar-nominated "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly".
He said he drew inspiration from several European political leaders.
"I was trying to see the smile of Tony Blair, maybe Nicolas Sarkozy -- it's the worst villain we ever had," he said.
Actress Judi Dench is back as Bond's boss M.
"The thing about James Bond, isn't it that it appeals to an incredible cross section of people?" she said. "The appeal for my grandson's is fantastic and ... for their fathers too."
On a tour of the main Bond set at Pinewood, journalists were shown 3 stages, all of them set in the Italian city of Siena.
In the largest, two actors including Craig's stunt double, swung from ropes and fought in an old art gallery.
"Quantum of Solace" is due for release in theatres on November 7 this year.
------------------------------------------------------------ ---------
It picks up one hour after the other one finished. It's apparently a little story Ian Fleming wrote?
Quantum of Solace" is not a spy story and Bond appears only in the background. Told in the style of W Somerset Maugham, the tale has Bond attending a boring dinner party at the Government House in Nassau with a group of socialites he can't stand.
Bond makes an offensive remark after dinner when the other guests have left in order to stimulate conversation. This solicits a careful reply from the elderly Governor of The Bahamas who tells 007 a sad tale about a relationship between former civil servant Philip Masters stationed in Bermuda and air hostess Rhoda Llewellyn. After meeting aboard a flight to London the two eventually married but after a time Rhoda became unhappy with her life as a housewife. She then began a long open affair with the eldest son of a rich Bermudan family. As a result Masters' work deteriorated and he suffered a nervous breakdown. After recovering he was given a break from Bermuda by the governor and sent on an assignment to Washington to negotiate fishing rights with the US. At the same time the governor's wife had a talk with Rhoda just as her affair ended. Masters returned a few months later and decided to end his marriage, although he and Rhoda continued to appear as a happy couple in public. Masters returned alone to the UK, leaving a penniless Rhoda stranded in Bermuda, an act which he'd been incapable of carrying out merely months earlier. But Masters never recovered emotionally, his vital spark never relit. The governor goes on to tell Bond how after a time Rhoda married a rich Canadian and seems to be happy, telling Bond that his dull dinner companions whom he found so boring were Rhoda and her new husband.
While the story does not include action elements, as other Fleming tales do, it attempts to posit that Bond's adventures pale in comparison with real life drama. Bond reflects that the lives of the people he passes somewhat superficial judgments upon can in fact hide poignant episodes.
Quantum of Solace has been announced as the name of the 22nd Bond movie, [1] although it remains to be seen if any elements of the story will be retained. |

And the story is supposed to commence at a point just 2 minutes after the conclusion of "Casino Royale".........
Still, I'm looking forward to the next instalment- and I'm not even a Bond fan- If it's anywhere near as good as "Casino Royale" it'll be a treat! _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

The Bond films have traditionally been released every 2 years and this will be in cinemas almost exactly 2 years after Casino Royale. |

They have always said it starts a few moments after Casino Royale - I would suggest those "other networks" weren't paying attention, and you should stick with the BBC! |
