Tony Blackburn is to join London's Smooth Radio as the presenter of its weekend breakfast show.

Blackburn, who left GCap Media's Classic Gold before its merger with sister network Capital Gold last year, will present his first show on Smooth on February 16.

One of six Smooth Radio stations nationwide, the London station's presenting lineup also includes Graham Dene, Mark Goodier and Lynn Parsons. The weekend breakfast slot on Smooth London is currently presented by Russell Pockett.

"Smooth Radio is a wonderful station with a growing audience and a music format I love," said Blackburn, who won the 2002 edition of ITV1's I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!.

"I'm delighted to be joining up with some of the best loved names in the industry and really looking forward to bringing my own unique style of broadcasting to Smooth."

Blackburn will present the weekend breakfast slot between 7am and 10am, Saturdays and Sundays.

It's a good choice. They are getting a few of the best names in broadcasting onto the station.

Excellent news.

A great alternative to the current Radio 2 alternative schedule of Messrs Matthew and Jones.

Wishing Tony Blackburn every success with his new show. Will I be listening along with thousands of others-you bet we will.

Well Tony Blackburn was like his dog Arnold, all bark with no real bite; unlike me, I'm completely barking with a real bike. Wink Laughing Wink

I enjoyed listening to Tony Blackburn once upon a long ago.

The prospect of him now, coupled with the Smooth playlist and all those commercials - Evil or Very Mad well, it makes Sunday Love Songs sound attractive.
