Thoroughly enjoyed Songs of Praise from Hexham Abbey yesterday evening. I worked in Hexham for some years and still sometimes go to events at the Abbey. It was also good to spot quite a few people whom I knew, including a lady who once upon a time worked for me.

Though SP isn't on my regular watch list, I'll be tuned in again next week to see it come from Harrogate, one of my favourite weekend away spots and not too far from here. I wonder if Betty's Tea Room will be on.

Ian.

I seem to recall it has been mentioned before, if not on a previous edition of SoP then on an Antiques Roadshow. As was the case with that fish & chip restaurant in Whitby, whose name I can't remember now, the Magpie?, I expect you'll have to queue up for the place for weeks afterwards.

Thanks, RockitRon.

We go to Whitby when we can, too, given that it's only about an hour and a half's drive from here.

We tried for years to go to the Magpie Cafe but were always deterred by the size of the queue, until we visited a bit out of season two years ago and got in then--worth every penny! But there are lots of other good eating places in the Town.

True. Only visited Whitby and area once, half-term week in October seven or eight years ago. Didn't fancy queuing in the bracing wind, we just went to an ordinary F&C restaurant in the town and the meal was gorgeous (and probably half the price!).

Guess who forgot to record SOP from Harrogate. Was it good?

There's now a TV version of 'listen again' that lets you watch the programmes you missed earlier. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/

You don't need Vista to run iPlayer, I've got XP and it works a treat.

I would download it ready for when you do miss something you want to see. It's got some silly little quirks but it's fine once you get used to it, I actually think it's rather good.

I'm still on dial up with Windows 46 Laughing but I'm hoping to take up Broadband with my XP machine ( presently not connected to the interweb ) in the next couple of months.

If using XP, roughly how long does it take to download say a 1 hour programme?

It can depend on the time of day and the amount of other users on at the same time, also I guess it depends on the speed of your broadband connection.

That said I've dowloaded a few one hour programs, they take around 5 minutes with the connection I have. Sometimes you might find it's dead slow, in this case I usually stop the download then try again half and hour or so later, that seems to do the trick.

As I said it is a bit quirky sometimes. Laughing

Thanks TB, I'll give it a go when I've got a decent set up.
The machine I'm using now with Windows ME must be clogged up because it takes soooo long to download even short YouTube clips... Rolling Eyes
