It's not the last album I've bought, but I can't stop listening to "13" by Brian Setzer(he of stray cats fame), it's not in the style of his swing/big band last few albums but a lot more guitar based with some of the catchiest riffs I've heard in years. |

Have just sent for Kimmie Rhodes and Willie Nelson / Picture in a Frame
Tom Russell's Raw Vision and the DVD of O Brother Where Art Thou to accompany the CD I brought back from Canada. Not able to purchase the DVD whilst I was there because of their different format.
Steve and I are hoping to go to Nottingham in April to see Kimmie Rhodes, but are definitely off to see Alison Krauss and Robert Plant at Wembley in May. Raising Sand is one of my favourite CDs and that, together with other Alison Krauss CDs goes around my player on random.

Some recent purchases from the last fortnight (sorry I haven't been around recently - too much going on with work and trying to produce a monthly aviation magazine!):
Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight
Jessica Riddle - Key Of A Minor
Carla Werner - Departure
Martha's Trouble - Forget October
Kasey Chambers - The Captain
Swing Out Sister - Somewhere Deep In The Night
Melanie Doane - Adam's Rib
Holly McNarland - Stuff
Gemma Hayes - Night On My Side (the American version, with tracks not available on the UK version)
(Buying lots of discs via the US Amazon site at the moment - plenty of CDs for 1 cent plus $6.89 postage - that's still around £3.50 per disc for imports that end up much cheaper than buying from the UK. As long as the total package doesn't go above $18, I don't incur Customs charges.) _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Yes he really is Spanners, Perfect Love is also an excellent track from that album. Cheating I know but my lovely Diana just bought me the Kimmie Rhodes & Willie Nelson album, Picture In A Frame, if you get a chance to hear it you might like Valentine.

Watched our new DVD 'O Brother Where Art Thou' with my gorgeous Steve on Saturday and neither of us could stop laughing from start to finish. Not only was the dialogue very witty but the music in it was haunting. A really good Cohen Bros film. They deserved to do well at the recent awards.

I have just bought the 'Best of Tompall and The Glaser Brothers' and it is very good indeed if you enjoy Country Music. 'Streets of Baltimore'(T. Glaser/Harlan Howard) and 'Loving her was easier' (Kristofferson) are two songs that you may know, but there are many more here that are worth a listen. The earlier songs are almost folky Kingston Trio type music, and Tompall's solo hits are more in the so-called 'Outlaw ' vein. I first heard of the group when they backed Marty Robbins on his 'Cowboy' LPs. Just a pity that any of Jim Glaser's solo recordings aren't featured on this CD. You can check the band out on youtube if you care to. Cheers, Briant. |

Have just got the soundtrack to the film "White Rock", music by Rick Wakeman - absolutely superb. Also, having discovered Marc Cohn recently, have sent for another of his cds - The Very Best of Marc Cohn - from the net and couldn't believe the price - £3.89, which includes p&p. There are 18 songs on this cd and although I already have 6 on the first one I got, I am getting 12 completely new ones for that price.

I enjoyed watching that film until the car ran into those cows... which I thought was horrible.
But.... at the end of the film it states that no animals were hurt in the making... blah blah blah...
so that's alright then. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Just bought a double CD of Led Zep's greatest hits whilst wandering round Tesco's in Boston killing time while my van was being serviced. Can't remember what it's called, but it is cracking, all my favourites on there, real hooligan music, except Stairway To Heaven, which just means so much to me.It was my daughter's favourite song. All this for less than £8, and points to, cheap at half the price, in fact I couldn't afford not to buy it!

I think the cd to which you are referring is in fact called "Mothership". Heard it myself the other day and it's fantastic, especially Whole Lotta Love, which has a very special meaning to me. As you say, good price and points too, what else could a body want!

Having discovered the ease with which you can buy CDs over the net (not to mention the low prices), have just sent for Dolly Parton's "Backwoods Barbie" limited edition. Can't wait for it to come, so that Steve and I can cuddle up and enjoy. He brought me "The Grass is Blue" also by her, at the weekend, together with The Chieftans "Long Black Veil" (superb rendition) and Chris Rea's "Dancing With Strangers".

You have excellent taste Spanners, as does your Steve, especially The Chieftians with Mick Jagger doing the vocals on JC's Long Black Veil, this has to be the definitive version.

Listening to Planet Rock a couple of nights ago, I was thrilled to hear the opening notes of "Little Wing". Whamming up the volume as any self respecting Hendrix fan would do, I quickly realised it wasn't Jimi at all but Stevie Ray Vaughn.
I was impressed....
So impressed, I fired up the 'puter, onto Google and quickly secured "The Best of SRV" in minutes. I was chuffed to find the double CD also included his version of " Voodoo Chile ( Slight Return )" which I know to be equally as great.
I also recently bought Duffy's CD too. I like it! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

My last two were classical--Elgar Symphonies 1 and 2, respectively coupled with Pomp and Circumstance Marches and the song cycle Sea Pictures.
All conducted by the now much-missed Vernon 'Tod' Handley.
My most recent sixties purchase was the Best of the Merseybeats. See my review on Amazon if the mood takes you.

I've bought the Best of Christopher Cross and the Best of Warren Zevon. Both at a bargain price from the SAR site! I love the line from 'Sailing' about the canvas can do miracles, as it reminds me of holidays in Bermuda where my daughter used to live. Now the song 'Arthur's Theme' fits the bill with the line about getting caught between the moon and New York City. Guess where she lives now! |

Looked like an evening of "Swing Music"... I caught just the tail end and it looked fantastic.
Hopefully it'll be shown again, most things on BBC4 are. I'd love to record it. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Yes Santa, it was a great programme that I am sure will be repeated! The footage from the era was fantastic. All of the great names were featured. Very well done to Celador who made the programme for the BBC! Tonight there is a show with Sinatra, Dino and Judy Garland! I missed 'Robin and the Seven Hoods' which is a very good 'Rat Pack' film, though Peter Falk steals the show as the gangster Guy Gisbourne. I have the soundtrack CD and I'll play it later. |

Interestingly I had been looking for their albums for several months in the local HMV, (I know I could have just bought them online) and only found one but today I went it and they had a selection of 6 !, they suddenly must be popular again.
Stuart and Mark played Next a couple of weeks back and it sounded good |
