I didn't have high expectations of this TV presentation, given the past history and the prospects of it being hosted by the Osbornes. And in the event my fears were well founded, except that I thought the younger Osbornes did try to achieve some semblance of professionalism. Sharon resorting to prolific use of "p*** heads" etc whilst trying to remove the practically catatonic Arctic Monkeys from the stage, was nothing more than might have been anticipated.
But I thought that Amy Wineshouse's performance was lack-lustre, a grotesque vocally gymnastic parody of what had been otherwise really compelling tracks (Valerie and Losing Game), and Paul McCartney's weak vocal performance was reminiscent of Johnny Cash's later days. Will give it a miss next year. |

It wouldn't be the Brits if the presentation wasn't chaotic, nay, shambolic, the video effects around the artists performing weren't totally OTT and the sound quality through the TV, having to cope with an over-amplified audience as well as the bands' sound systems, wasn't weak or unbalanced.
I couldn't stand it any longer than up to the first ad break. Mika and the pink pumpkin (Beth Ditto, apparently) were laughably bad, Moyles was his usual unfunny self, Take That still can't string four words together coherantly when speaking and whatever talent the Klaxons have was totally wasted backing Rhianna in a laser-light cage.
There was a clip of Amy Winehouse on the News, and my immediate thought was that they'd used a Dead Ringers sketch instead.
I did see the very end, and a bit on ITV2, for Paul McCartney. True, the voice is not what it was, but at 66 it's not too bad, and when you've got a hot band and a library of songs everyone else would die for you can hardly fail.
For the view of someone who was there, here's the BBC's report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7255996.stm _________________ Ron |

Winehouse seemed like a rubbish tribute act who knew what to do but not really how to do it. |

It was good of ol' Sharon to take time off from going to the supermarket and the bingo (that she tells us about on her well paid adverts) to present 'The Pitts.' To rebuke some people for being drunk and incapable was amusing given her family's well documented problems. I have never 'got' Amy Winehouse's supposed talent, so I won't comment on her antics. Macca was a bit suspect vocally, but he did get the crowd going so he did his job, and I did like his natty jacket and his 'When I'm 64' type trouser braces! |
