Essex County Council has become the first local authority in the country to discuss taking over the running of post offices earmarked for closure.

The council is negotiating a buy-out price from the Post Office and said some 15 branches could be saved within two months.

I think it's a good idea. It keeps it with the community. It also wins voters over and keeps better councilors on board. I hope this exercise happens in rural areas where small Post Offices could close and people have to travel for miles.

The Signs may change to " Council Post Office " ?
