The music was good and the format is about the same. The presenter is fine.. Yet again the presenters try and get the listeners on board by emailing, texting or phoning " What are you upto this Sunday"

I do think this format is getting a little tired now. Can anyone think of something different like a subject or competition?

How about discussing something interesting & getting listeners to comment on the discussion? Wink

I for one don't want to hear what other boring people are up to on a Sunday. Laughing

That sounds like a re-invention of Jeremy Vine--nothing wrong with that but maybe the weekend needs something different.

Interaction with the listeners is different for this slot, as it wasn't done for a long long time. It's only show one, it will develop and settle in format over the next few weeks. Have to say really enjoyed the music played. I shall not comment on the presenter as I'm obviously biased on that score Wink Very Happy

Oh yes I know these shows take time to settle in. He's not new too radio 2 and usually the first show is slow, but it sounded like Michael jumped into it with two feet.

God will we have 'Love the show' from listeners or my name is blah blah... It needs to be done in a different way.

First show probably had more prepared than they needed and therefore ended up rushing to get through things in the time. With subsequent shows things will find there natural level. There will be the album track feature to do (that could prove very interesting over the weeks). They will all get used to each other and pick up the same sort of shorthand between them that Parky had with regulars because they were, well regulars.

My guess would be not to much but some, would be rude to ignore people afterall. Smile

My thoughts as well Ian, there was nothing wrong with the format as was, with or without Parky in the seat.

I didn't listen as I don't like Michael Ball. It's 'Luvvies United' between 11am and 2.30pm now.

I suppose it depends on what people have done on a sunday, or even over the weekend. I, for one, might tend to avoid those saying purely that they are driving to & from the local shopping / garden centre or from a sunday morning kick-a-round as many have probably done the same. I would likely try and entice those who are doing something rather more adventurous.

I stopped listening to Parky ages ago, as I became bored with how predictable the music was. Only ever listened if there was an interesting guest due on. It's our old friend opinion again isn't it. Smile personally I'm not over keen on Alan Tichmarsh's show so I never turn in. Others do though and that's fine it's not to my taste that's all Smile

Especially with Judi Dench - oooh, that was cringe-making.

I'd have preferred Clive Anderson or Eamon Holmes to have inherited the programme. I'll be putting a CD on and reading the Sunday Times instead. (Other newspapers are available.)

I think Michael Ball is better than some of the stand-in's but would have much preferred Clive Anderson to have taken the permanent position. Having said that I think Ball is doing a reasonable job, it's easy listening that you can dip in and out of without much thought. Probably best for listening to whilst ironing just don't email in telling us all that you are ironing!!

I guess he was probably appearing in Manchester last night or somewhere close as part of his tour Mark.

Otherwise they would have had to get someone to sit in for him.

He's probably a tory. He was going on about harriet harmen and some alleged minor traffic violation. He said something about harriet going to prison for it, even tho the police have dismissed it as a very minor incident if true & not vagueley criminal.
I bet he'll be entertaining etonian cameron

What an extraordinarily stupid thing to say.

Michael Ball was appearing at the Manchester Apollo last night.

There is nothing in any biographical detail I can find on the web that indicates he may be a supporter of the Conservative, or any other political, party.

Harriet Harman's alleged minor traffic violation has been reported in most of the papers - http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/oct/04/harriet-harman-car-crash - and was therefore mentioned in the review of the Sunday press.

Yes, but all credit to the BBC for managing to get their giant Oxford Road studios past the security cordon. And it must come as some surprise to Radcliffe & Maconie that the studio they've been broadcasting from for years has never previously existed... Rolling Eyes
