Jeremy's back today and the topics will be:-

LABOUR LOSSES - Labour's set to suffer its worst local election results for forty years as the Conservatives swoop on councils in Bury and Southampton.

CAR STEREO - A man wins a four year legal battle to overturn a fine for playing Riverdance too loudly on his car stereo.

PETROL PRICES - After 1, money saving expert Martin Lewis tells you how to beat the petrol price hike.

WHAT'S YOUR BEEF? - Some pubs sell you a classic British beef and ale pie when the meat isn’t British…and it's not even beef. A BBC reporter investigates...

H

..... And will it turn out to be Boris's day on St Boris's Day? ( in France anyway!)

I think everyone was expecting labour to do badly, really they have gone stale, if there was a general election you have to say the momentum with with David Cameron at the moment.

Not suprised by the last story, even in supermarkets now when you see someting marked as British it does not necessarily mean it comes from here, sometimes it just means it was packed here, the meat itself could have come from anyhwere

I'd say that Gordon will not be planning an election next year on yesterday's figures.

Listening to Harriot Harman's response that "we've made mistakes and now have to listen to the public", I wonder if Labour are playing a midterm game whereby they've deliberately made unpopular moves and will now do all the things they could have done to regain the popularity of the public and make Gordon out to be a "listening Prime Minister".

It's a bit late to start listening now Rolling Eyes They have c*cked up big time and no amount of 'listening' is going to help them.

well they're safe for a couple of years (?) so Gordon can take some risks. The man in the street would easily be won over by a few tax cuts and a reduction in petrol tax due to a caring and listening Prime Minister but more importantly as far as I'm concerned - what does bandwagon Cameron have to offer?? nothing!
I don't see this as a victory for the Conservatives at all.

PETROL PRICES - listening to Martin Lewis' and callers advice on how to treat the accelerator pedal actually annoyed me slightly!
Surely it's just plain common sense!! or is the average grown up driver in the UK thick? ( or deaf from in car stereos )
I do and always have done everything he's recommending on driving technique.
But, rather than pussyfoot around trying to save 3% here and 2% there, why don't the government impose a 55 mph limit on the roads in the short term?

Acceleration sense has been part of Roadcraft for years and is an easy way to reduce wastage of fuel. In fact if everyone used advanced driving techniques they could save money and be safer.

Labour can take a little comfort from the fact that sitting Governments often get a drubbing in local elections. I believe that a General Election would be a much closer-run thing.

Some amazing results, nevertheless. West Northumberland now doesn't have a single Labour County Councillor and some of those who stood have sustained a real thrashing.

Ian.

I see North Tyneside has gone Conservative as well Ian, Wideopen came that constituency when we were living up there.
