According to the Radio times online Richard Hammond is covering breakfast 7-10am and Simon Mayo is covering Drivetme.

The Record Producers returns:

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis come under the spotlight. A prolific writing and producing team, Jam and Lewis have enjoyed great success since the 80s with a range of artists, including Janet Jackson, Usher and Mary J Blige. Presenters Richard Allinson and Steve Levine chart the duo's career.

Interesting to see that we have 2 hours of Paul Jones... and Steve Wright working on a bank holiday - I assume he can't have any time off if he is due to have two weeks off soon anyway.

It seems that Hammond is as well - Richard Allinson is on now but the website still says "On Air: Richard Hammond".

Yep, just turned the radio on and thought to myself "no, it's a different Richard...." Very Happy Mark will be pleased....

Had to laugh at his response to a listener who e-mailed in to say he'd been woken up by the RAF earlier on - "nothing like the sound of an F-16 in the morning". Since when do the RAF operate Lawn Darts? (Well, apart from in "Independence Day", that is.) He'll be getting some good-natured ribbing from his BFBS audience for that one....

Unfortunately I missed Richard Allinson earlier today.

I'll have to use the Listen Again feature.

Lets hope Richard returns to more regular broadcasting soon.

I don't know what the excuse was, but I think BBC Radio 2 should not employ Hammond as this is the second time he's let them down. At least one thing Allinson Richardson was in the UK after being to California and still being rolled out every three months from the woodwork.

It might be that Allinson was planned all along - with a lack of communication between whoever does the website and whoever 'writes' the schedules.

Hmmm... you can also include those who produce the trailers, let's be honest they've advertised these bank holiday 'celebrities' enough lately!

Whatever the reason, it's a poor show by Hammond, but always good to hear Allinson back on the radio. and going back to the trailing business, how many times did he tell us who was on later today?!? It's as if R2 were trying to reassure us the other presenters would turn up!

I wonder if Richard remembers that F16 display at a seaside air show from which his Saturday show was also being outside broadcasted from (aahh, the good old days when Saturday R2 was unmissable in the afternoons) I always think of that whenever I see an F16 display!

A really great show delivered by the excellent Richard Allinson today.

Thoroughly enjoyed it-great music played.

Lets hope that now Richard is back from California, we are going to hear more of him on Radio 2 in the future.

As I was falling to sleep last night, Janice mentioned her successors in the bank holiday schedule as Alex Lester followed by Richard Allinson - so, I guess Richard H had cancelled far enough in advance. Was a nice start to the non-bank-holiday-Scottish-morning for me none-the-less - allow me to add my name to the growing fan club of Richard's, his evening show was one of the first Radio 2 shows I listened to.

Nick.

He could have played out Record Producers by the time he told us all about the show Laughing

It is strange how he's not used more on Radio 2 at present? It's like waiting at the phone for the call. I have never heard a radio station using a presenter like Radio 2 do with Richard Allinson? Sometimes he does sound a little smarmy, but I think thats the way he just comes across. You can never really change a broadcaster. He was never that bad on Capital Radio.

Never mind it was getting late.. Laughing
