I really do think the fighting between Rangers Fans and Police on the streets of Manchester on Wednesday night, goes to show that we as a country are not fit enough to host any major tournament.
It certainly will give a black mark for us to ever hosting the World Cup. |

Did you honestly expect anything else Mark?
Many years ago Rangers ran amok in Newcastle and causing mayhem and forcing many businesses to close.

I disagree.
I have just returned from Manchester where I have been since last Sunday. I have been hosting a stand for my employer at the GMax Centre right in the centre of Manchester.
I would praise the vast majority of both Rangers and their opponents fans for their great behaviour and the City of Manchester organisational skills in handling around 150,000 extra visitors to their City.
It was only a few mindless idiots/thugs who caused the trouble.

A few. It looks like more than a few? If you think it's only a few, it tarnishes the whole game. Thankfully Scotland wasn't in this years Euro championships, or there could have been trouble? |

This will sound harsh but
Alcohol fuelled yobs itching to cause trouble spoiling it for everyone else who wanted to enjoy the game, sadly this sounds all to familiar. Apparently there was a bill due to be heard to ban booze from the streets of the city centre but it didn't happen. The authorities should have put that in place months ago and advertised it.
Then people buying alcohol for home consummtion, would have known well in advance. It wouldn't have stopped people drinking completely in public places as some would just bring it with them. It would however reduce the problem greatly and make those who were under the influence much easier to spot and deal with. Unfortunately this punishes everyone for the actions of a few and also has a knock on effect on businesses and revenue for the venue but surely safety must come before economics. It was lucky more innocent people were not injured or worse. With the problem we have these days with anti social behaviour we (as in society ) need to be giving clear messages that this type of behaviour is ugly and wont be tolerated.
I know alcohol is not the only cause of the trouble but it is a pretty strong influencing factor imo. _________________ Put some records on while I pour |

I understand that drinking in Red Square in Moscow is an arrestable offence. Wednesday could be interesting with the football taking place! |

I quite agree Heloise. For them to be able to drink all day was total madness.
As Briant says it could be interesting on Wednesday!
