Brassed Off star Stephen Tompkinson presents a four-part celebration of the UK's long love affair with brass band music.
From the Pennine Hills to the Welsh Valleys, from the Cornish Copper Towns to the Scottish Glens and over the sea to Ireland, the distinctive sound of brass has been a feature of the culture of the British Isles for almost two centuries.
The series looks at the roots of brass bands, the importance of brass band dynasties and how brass has influenced the musical careers of today's top artists.
Did anybody else listen to this?? I hit listen again and was a bit disappointed with it to be honest. It lacked some umph and Tompkinsons voice grated after 10 minutes. And on the very few occasions that a track was played without somebody talking then it was a "popular" song with brass mixed in. I wanted some of the classics!!
Guess I'll just have to dig out that Brassed Off CD! _________________

I quite enjoyed it, though it was a little shallow. I feel I learnt a bit of stuff and, I guess, if I want to hear pieces in full I'll listen to Listen To The Band on Friday (which, er, I do...) |
