No I don't think so Mark. I guess that he may like to actually go on holiday at this time of year rather than in the summer. Not everyone likes the heat, and I think his youngest is only 2 or so.

Yes, Ken does have a 2-year-old and I think at least 3 other kids. There's a few presenters who take half-terms off nowadays - eg Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley.

Ken does take more holidays now than he used to - I wonder if that's instead of a pay rise, or just his entitlements after so many years?

They get paid huge amounts. So I doubt thats the case for the entitlement. Laughing Make the most of your kids whilst they are young.

They had a new baby boy earlier in the year, so that's three small children he's got now.

Plus two grown up ones I think.

Thank goodness I missed him.

Excellent show from Richard Allinson yesterday. Shame he isn't the permanent host of the mid-morning slot.

When The Sun made the salaries public a couple of years ago, Ken was on 194k a year, which was less than every other daytime presenter. I can imagine him being a bit annoyed about that.

It may be a lot of money to you and I but if all your colleagues are on at least twice your pay you'd want be at their level, surely?

Oops I forgot that one QS! I was thinking of the one who would be 2-3 now.

Simon Mayo would be an excellent replacement for Ken if he decides to hang up his headphones any time soon. Not that I have any reason to suppose he will.

ps I know public transport isnt all it should be but did it really take Ken 2 days to get to Belgrade? Rolling Eyes

Great show delivered by Richard on Thursday 22-5-08 covering for Ken Bruce. This is how the mid morning should sound like on a regular basis.

Looking forward to hearing Richard covering for Bruce for the whole of the week ncommencing 26/5.

Here's hoping Richard gets more regular work on BBC Radio 2 going forward.
