Hello boys. Very Happy Didn't he do well this morning resurrecting old catch phrases. I'm talking big time, cowabunga dude, slip me some skin bro, he had the whole place rocking in the free world. Magic! Anyway he said rock on Tommy, you are awful but I like you. Don't panic, stupid boy, just say what you see, what's Mr Chips doing now? Thunderbirds are go! It was lush baby, far out, really wicked. I said you'll like this, not a lot, not like this, just like that, nice one Cyril, you've never had it so good, silly moo. It's the quiz of the week, you can't beat a bit of bully but I hate that duck. Hello campers, oh dear how sad, never mind- a bunch of poofs you is. Anybody got any cheese? Eat my shorts lightweight. Who loves ya baby? Here Kitty Kitty, there can be only one. I have a cunning plan. Make it so, I aint going in no plane. Ah my new jacket! I love it when a plan comes together. Time to slide so it's good night from him, so long princess, asta la vista baby, may the force be with you. I'll be back.

What does your front door say about you? uPVC, hard wood, soft wood- varnished, painted, bolted, deadlocked or always open?

Being paranoid I have two front doors- you know all those Police Camera Action type things on the telly- yep?... and how they have that battering ram thing - they knock the door down then about 50 of them pile into the house. Well I'm having none of that.

Our house has a Sailor Arch at the front - which used to be a sort of open Porch Area that you could stand in , but not any more - we had an arched window and a uPVC door fitted into it, making a closed porch area - the original front door is still on the inside - it's kind of like an air lock. So there'll be 50 boys in blue on out in the front garden - they'll batter the front door down and then all 50 of em will attempt to pile into a cramped 3 foot by 6 foot porch ...... " it looks much bigger on the outside guv"

...and this is what it's all about.....

What the colours mean?

Black, for obvious reasons (think Number 10), represents power.

Red is the colour of excitement

Orange is depression

White is the future and imagination.

Green and blue are calming.

Pink is... for little girls.

On this morning's show...... "You can't have too many"<blanks>

For me it's ... handy things in your handbag!

Today for example, in my bag.. ( It's a fairly big bag)

1. Make-up bag (essential)
2. Mini First-Aid kit ( never used)
3. Telescope (small)
4. Mini 15 piece socket set.
5. Purse
6. Nail Varnish- Soho Attitude ( Purple) and Clear

10 Hat
12. Sun Glasses x 2
13. Umbrella
14. Swiss Army Knife
15. Spare underwear
16. Mobile Phone x 2
17. Diary/Address book This year's and last year's
18. Hand cream
19. Apple
20. Banana
21. Paper Hankies
22. Cotton hankies x2
23. Head Ache pills
24. 2 sachets of Lemsip
25. Car/house keys

I was off sick most of last week- hence my absence from the board.. Sad ... I've just filled in my auto-generated sickness form- it has a drop down pick list of " excuses" err reasons for absence- each one is given a numeric code. For example 995.1 is angionurotic oedema. ( That's not what I had of course) There is no option to put down what was actually the problem. So I've gone for 464.1... Smile

More about this morning's show later....

Shoulder strain from the weight of your handbag, or just off-colour? Wink

Sorry to hear you've been off sick, though.

thanks Ron Smile That's actually not too far away from what was up with me. I do Yoga a few times a week, last Sunday I was practicing my headstand ( not yesterday). easy enough- but on this occasion I lost my balance, did a sort of forward roll into my wardrobe... It didn't hurt too much at first but gradually got worse until I couldn't move my head side to side/up or down at all - odd feeling, like a nail had been banged though my spine just below my neck. Went to the Docs - he had a good feel, prodded pushed - lots of clicking and squelchy noises, then bingo ! / It's on the mend now - just a little stiffness but no pain.

On today's show.... Films they never made! ( But should have)

I think I'd go for Our Man Splint! In the opening sequence our secret agent and international jewel thief( Alex the Jackal) jumps from a tall building- breaks his leg-spends the rest of the movie in traction... Smile

or how about...... Robojock!..... A young DJ called Alex, eats himself to death in a pie shop. The boffins manage to save his brain as well as his record playing right arm. They fuse what's left of him with a Juke-box and give him an overnight show. He spends his days hanging about in London bars chatting up blonde women - all of his chat-up line are song lyrics ... his favourite being ... put another pie in the duke box baby! Smile

My knees must remain a state secret - mind you, they're about the only part of my anatomy that wasn't bitten by Scots midges last week - and, judging by the sight of those on his webpage, there are a few more which would have been better kept under wraps (not yours, of course, Rachel Very Happy )

Alas, for my brief period of wakefulness during the early hours, at about four, he played Fleetwood Mac and The Tremeloes and I heard no more.

Sending in your knees isn't compulsory of course Ron. Smile The naked knee is never quite at ease, they cross this way and then cross that way- press themselves together then flop apart, they just don't know what to do with themselves do they?. Under the spotlight knees can become very shy - oh yes, we tempt them out with the promise of a suntan - a run in the park - a deck chair with a nice view, a tennis match, maybe even a shave! Some knees yield then bare all but there are those knees that just like to stay in the comfort of their own trousers, and there's nothing wrong with that.

My knees are on there - I didn't notice them the first time I looked. How bad is that? Didn't even recognise my own knees.

Excuse me madam- are these your knees? Well let me just have a look at them..... Smile

On this morning's show Alex covered ageism- setting age limits for doing all sorts of everyday things - for example, there should be no age limit for eating pies but having a penchant for eating pies probably puts your age limit for wearing Speedos at about 30. Alex also simplified all those complicated jobs like "Airline Pilot"- delivery driver. Reading between the lines though, as I always do, Alex expressed his disappointment at having never been a porn star and then went on to talk about leather jackets and cameramen taking video cameras on holiday. Who checks the white balance? How long is it to your holiday Alex? The mind boggles! The show finished up with cultural time markers and using them to accurately guess a persons age by the answers they give to certain questions- Chopper or Grifter? Who is your favourite Blue Peter Presenter, Dr Who etc.... So you can work out how old a person is without asking them directly or sending them to be carbon dated! Always difficult in my case - I lived with my great grandma for 7 years at an impressionable age. Nobody these days can keep a bottle of milk cold without a fridge like I can. The show was also full to bursting with fab music, some new stuff too- check out the library!!

Heard only a little again, when dawn chorus and later OH getting up to go to the loo woke me briefly. So got the bit about the cameraman going on holiday and the Dolly Parton and REM tracks, but he lulled me quickly back to nod. Won't be as easy when Pete Mitchell's in the chair.

This morning I left the house at 06:45 - dusted the Conker Tree Blossom from the windscreen of my Evil Twin- strapped myself in - plugged in my MP3 recorder - then pulled on my pink leather driving gloves. With oversized sunglasses balanced on my nose and a reassuring purr from the engine - inched out of the driveway. (Last week the paperboy almost copped for it as he sped on his bike speedway style into our drive as I was leaving.) Just got the nose of the Evil Twin out past the Conker Trees then, pressed play........... Hold on Tight - ELO..... sun shining - 30 miles of country roads with just me, Alex and a car that eats cats and loves corners... Jos Stone- Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now as I left town over the hump back bridge.... several tracks further on I drove through Cerne Abbas - waved at the Giant - he always looks jolly pleased to see me...... Herman's Hermits- I'm into something good. Then some Metal in the Morning .. turned it up to number 30! Ouch. A few tracks later, Sherborne Castle on the right....a few more miles then pulled into my parking space to Missing You- John Waite ( Do you know they've painted over my name on my parking space already! - Come on guys - you've never been that efficient before!) There was lots more simplified jobs during the first hour and more of those Cultural Time Markers too. Hour two - Fruitless Investments! Ever invested loads of time and effort into something with diddly squat in return? Errr thinks to self for one moment..... nahhh- well maybe Im still in the middle of that effort Smile Breaking the deadlock.... is penalties the best way to end it all... how about Thumb Wars or perhaps - Twister!

I'm not 100% certain Nod.. but I reckon you'll need to e-mail Alex ( perhaps enclose a pie Smile ) with a request for a track that was one of your Juke-box favourites, maybe add a few words about why you remember it- - what the pub was like- how much it cost per track?- how much it cost for a Babycham and a bag of ready salted? - what kind of Juke-box was it? Was it one of the kind with a window, so you could see a row of 45s and a really complicated feat of electro-mechanical genius in operation while your track was being selected, or were you a child of the 80s Juke-boxes with just that Selector Box on the wall and a remote machine with the records in it, or maybe you're just a youngling and your bag was the Video Juke-box,- cue Buggles. Did you ever fall in love over a Juke box- maybe you made lurve over a Juke-box- perhaps you were jeered then disgorged from the pub for your repeated Juke-box selection - Oh Superman.. Laurie Anderson etc etc.

My own Juke-box memory was from the Juke-box at our Youth Club, where I was a helper! ( Free Pool Table too) I'm sure it was a B side of either Matt Bianco, Altered Images or a Matchbox single but maybe it was another early 80s band? I cannot remember which it was-- the track was, Let's jump the Broomstick Smile

It was like an end of the week student casserole this morning - little bits of everything from earlier in the week, finely chopped and mixed with a tin of beans with those little sausages in it- all warmed gently over the one working ring on the Baby Belling- ( the original Home Desk Top) Yummy! No phone answerer again this morning - alien abduction? Quite probably- it's like that in London. So, the producer ( nice knees) had to do his ambidextrous phone trick again. Ever met one of those people who tell you how to do your job? Yes every day. And! Goody Two Shoes from Adam and the Ants too! Love that!! Domestic appliance repair - we discovered that the Dark Lord and Maintenance of Electrical items - don't mix well- red light-bulbs for the fire apparently.

Oh hot news just in, after hours of research- I've been told who did Let's Jump the Broomstick - it was Coast to Coast- remember them? I didn't but I do remember their music... they also did Do the Hucklebuck- I just loved them..... Don't make that face ... I was just 15!!

Ah, yes, Coast to Coast - covers of old Brenda Lee and Irish Showband numbers. They were fun for five minutes - didn't outstay their welcome.

I'm heaving just at the thought of that casserole. Heinz or no, those beans and sausage were VILE.

He does like that Dolly Parton song, doesn't he? Every day this week, I think.

Oh I like those little bad boys in with the beans ( well I did way back- not had them for years) - Just off to Sainsbury's now before my last weekend off!!

Back on Tuesday. Have a good one! Very Happy

Back to normal this morning, Alex sounding as happy as Larry. There's no such thing as a fuel crisis on the Best Time of the Day Show- with alternative fuel sources and transport ideas coming in thick and fast. Use greenhouse gasses to inflate huge balloons, tie an Eagle to the Balloon Basket for forward powered flight- keep the Eagle flying by dangling small fury rodents from sticks in the direction you want to travel. The Hitch-Hikers Guide to Galaxy came up with the very best power source though- bad news! Nothing travels faster than bad news, which makes it a great fuel source- the one down side being whenever you travel with bad news, you become immediately very unpopular when you arrive. Someone should have let Gordon know about that. Great music this morning.

Oh hot news! When doing my toe-nails last night - I used a one of those toe separator things - Top Tip- take it from me, never get up and walk with a 5- toe separator in place, one of my little pinkies became dislocated from whatever it is normally located into (foot) - ouch! It seems reluctant to go back too.

It's just sort of dangling, hanging there LEE , all limp and lifeless, like a windsock on a summer's day- bit swollen too- hurts a lot when I squeeze it but it's ok to walk on- apart from the clicky noises:- on the upside - this is my last full day at work, tomorrow is a half day, and Thursday should be just a couple of hours. I received my very first ever P45 in the post this morning - not very exciting are they? Sad A good way to reduce ones carbon footprint though. Smile

I was looking out of an upstairs window on Saturday afternoon, a vehicle pulled up outside our house - you know - over there- I thought blimey! He don't half look like Tim Smith- wonder why he would come around here.- hence no apprentice today - I'll have to analyse the security tapes first Smile

Crisis what Crisis? Don't touch my hair!!!! I've chipped a nail- someone's in my parking space at the supermarket! That sort of thing. Also a beast in the bedroom- no not the Ann Summers gadgetry but a Shark- we heard about a 14 year old attacked by shark in his own bedroom- how cool is that? You'll have to listen to the show for more details. More new forms of energy and transport as well as a fab Paul Simon track in Lester's Library.

Hi LEE

" Rachel on Radio 2"- - you may have heard that there'll be a Rachel ( not this one though)on Drivetime in the middle of June- she's fab: does that Lunchtime Business programme on the telly, and has been on Mo Dutta's show on a Saturday morning a few times - the good news is she keeps chickens- she's young, beautiful and intelligent. All of the things I'm not. Standing in for Foxy for a wee while. I don't think Radio 2 is quite ready for me, although I am available from Monday - should they need an injection of home baked insanity. Smile

Cool beans!

This new Iplayer thing is fab!...... makes time travel though a show really easy....

Alex is trying to get back in shape after a month of eating himself to death in America.

With my agony aunt head on, I'd say .... well Alex ....start with an easy shape. Make this month's shape a large amorphous blob... Smile

The alternative is to change your name to something that will give people the expectation that you are a little soggy around the mid section.

Alex Lester, he's cute , he's cuddly..... he's ....the Tubby Talent!

No? .....

Well it's so much better than saying no beer, no chips , no burgers, no pies, no dairy products, no sugar....drink 3 gallons of water a day and jog to work and back, then do the plank while the tracks are playing. .....

Maybe a personal trainer is the answer .... I know one who isn't doing too much at the moment Wink ... Call my help line to hear more......Smile

Apologies for my delayed reply Ron .. an access problem yesterday/day before...

yep I'm jolly pleased that Alex is back! Very Happy It feels like, well, you know when you look through an old handbag…..(come to think of it you probably don't) .. well it's like that feeling you get finding bunch of rolled up twenties in one of your old handbags, then remembering that you didn’t buy that Kit-car last year after all..….woohoo…... this way to the shops……….. It’s a good feeling….

On today’s show ….Diets, Dens and Destiny. Yes folks, a cult is born. As with all cults, followers are required… for “Guru Says Sooth (the Elder)” the cult leader and Alex’s new alter-ego. Each day until he stops, Guru Says Sooth the Elder will say something profound and thought provoking to help you through the days of gloom.

.This morning it was…. .. Oh hang on … now what was it, something about clouds and …Oh yes….. scudding clouds don’t hide … was it don’t hide?….anyway it was about scudding clouds and real meaning and deep thoughtful stuff like that… you’ll have to listen , I’m not very good at explaining things… J

Another day and another deep and meaningless thought stopping profound Sooth from Sezzsuth the Elder, and here it is......

"Let what is written on your soul fulfill your moondream"

Now what does that mean? Oh hang on .... Embarassed I can't possibly write that down. Smile

Also, MPs and how they should all paint their faces in their party colours ....perhaps they could have football type songs to sing at each other in the background during Prime Minister’s question time....

You're not singing..... you're not singing...... the reds... aren't singing any more..... Smile etc etc.... ( other colours are available)

and the haunted wooden fish.... Laughing

Oh and a target weight of 11 stone 1lb Smile

Today Sezzsuth says...

"An expanded mind blossoms from the lunar sea"

Also, confused castrated cats, what are you using for something that it wasn't designed for?

Well I'm using my laptop to listen to the radio, even though there's a radio right here next to me, does that count ? Very Happy

Did a TV programme ruin your life?..... Yep but I'm not going into details....years of therapy you know. Confused

Still no name for the new cult .... How about ....

....."Spawn of the Dark Svelte" ? Also a good title for the book and first movie with follow on books and movies of Rise of the Dark Svelte, Day of the Dark Svelte etc etc....

I know that the music played is secondary to all the trails of whimsy but this morning's list was particularly uninspiring, so that it looked no different to the aural wallpaper we have during the day. Billy Joel's My Life, Amy Winehouse, Kid Rock - I fell asleep at that point.

Where are the fruits of his American adventure?

I'm just listening now Ron - ( it's taken ages for the iplayer to update)... looking at the music played list though it looks good to me .. even my all time fav track is on there......... and my Myspace profile track too... Smile

Alex did play some American Adventure music last week in the Library....

Today's deep and meaningless from Sezzsuth....

"Touch the depth of your oneness and reach the unity within".....

The world's most unwanted man?... James Blunt? Gordon Bown?

What does the Taxman look like?

Individually, most of the music's fine. I'm just too picky, and at 3 o'clock in the morning it doesn't really matter.

What does the Taxman look like? Can't be any more scary than Alistair Darling.

This morning Sezzsuth the elder says….

“may the eternal sunshine enwealthen( I don't think that is a real word Sezza) your thoughts with rays of positivity”

The world’s least wanted woman. Who could she be?

It’s official! This is from yesterday but it just popped up following the scale of the problem with problem scales this morning. Alex(pre diet) is heavier than Johnny Vegas (post diet) … there’s a little fact-ette well quite a big fact-ette I guess…...I cannot believe it though… Johnny Vegas is a one-man mountain.

And that brings me neatly onto food. Well recipes for food. Alex has been asked to provide a recipe for the TOGs cookbook… What could that be? The recipe Alex did for them last year is all he knows about cooking. Just send in the same recipe as last year but in a different order and call it something different! …. I’d go for a traditional Sunday lunch- liquidised then served with all due deference and a spoon. Very Happy Call it Sunday Soup….

If Vegas is anything in reality like his public persona, he's all air and liquid, so he could well have slimmed off a lot - not seen him on tv lately.

All that food he scoffed in America and he might have trouble thinking of a recipe? That shrimp on pasta with Caesar salad looked good.

If I'd been awake I'd have liked today's music selection (Spandau Ballet excepted) Wink

yeah I guess if they just undid his belly button he would spill out onto the floor with a tidal wave of Ruddles County..." ok that's a good weight - tie it up again"

Ah, I posted my synopsis before the end of the show... Alex (and listener input) did come up with "Poached Kittens" involving pears ( not real kittens), just before 6 o'clock... Very Happy

Yeah it was a good selection this morning... the Spandau Ballet one... is ok too ( although I'm not at all sure what the lyrics are about)

Can you still get Ruddles County? It seems like several years since I last saw it in a pub.
