I got the feeling Jeremy thought the "compulsory tree inspection" idea voiced by the woman on today's show was almost laughable, he seemed to trip her up on every question.
This is just another money making scam which I would be dead against and, I think it would be the thin end of the wedge for yet more ridiculous H&S and risk assessment rubbish. The mind boggles at the thought of it.
For the most part, people who have trees on their property act responsibly and look after them and if not, the local authority parks department should respond to complaints from the public.

and.... Laughing how long would it be before the assessment turned from recommended action to compulsory action? and major bills started to turn up for folk who can ill afford it.
Has anybody else here had a bill from a "Tree Surgeon"? it can be well over a thousand quid!
Along my rear boundary, I have 3 Sycamore trees... some people call Sycamores weeds although I don't understand why that is! they're trees all the same..
One was cut down 20 years or so ago and it's grown back in about 6 stems.
Now an assessment ( and nudge from my neighbour....) may render this tree as unsafe or fancy words for not being as it should. The fact is I like it because it overhangs a flat roof and provides an ideal and safe spot for the birds which I feed every day.
I wouldn't take kindly to some clipboard telling me it's going to have to come down.

Yes, I have something like seven trees in the back garden and one in the front - sounds like another stealth tax on homeowners to me. Having to spend a couple of grand as a result of an inspection, or due to a malicious comment by a neighbour, wouldn't be viewed favourably by this resident.... Even the 'expert' on R5Live this afternoon admitted that people were 12 times more likely to fall down their stairs at home rather than be injured by a tree.
