They have dropped the Stuart Maconie (sound-a-like) for their voiceovers. Is Stuart's voice no longer a sofa shifter? Laughing

Maybe Maconie's lawyers had a word?

They are now using classical music for a backing track to the ad and seem to have dropped Katie Melua. Crying or Very sad

With the credit crunch in full flow - they've gone for copyright free music and a voiceover by one of the guys from the shop floor. I don't know why they bother with adverts these days - we switch over or mute while the ads are on- we enjoy sparkling conversation during the corry add breaks.

Rachel
Come on now! The ads are better than 90% of the programmes on tv Laughing

Ok Ernie, I concede some adds are quite clever but the days of the really good ads are long gone.....

How was the Beer festival?

They never used Katie Melua. It was a soundalike singing slightly different words to a slightly different tune.

Rachel-Have you seen the advert for Brains from Thunderbirds advertising a water company's drink product. Very Happy

This advert along with a few others currently showing are much better than most of the TV dross now showing/offered to us.

I think the ad men/women are getting much smarter these days.

I disagree. There are some ads that make you wonder what on Earth they are supposed to be selling!

Indeed. The Drench ad might look smart, enjoyable to watch, but just putting their product on the last two seconds did not make an impression on me i.e. we were raving about the ad here and elsewhere but it was only after several watchings that I was able to remember what the product was. I've never bought Drench.

There's a clever one from Smirnoff, featuring sunken ships and downed aircraft leaving the sea (sorry if I've spolied it) but I won't buy a bottle of Smirnoff.

Of course there are some people who get through a bottle of Vodka every week, they might be tempted to go for a cheaper brand like Luksusowa but do you really think that ad will persuade them to go for Smirnoff?

I have seen that one Mark - it's fab. He looks a bit like Dr Who that Brains chap.

My fav advert is the one from circa 1984/5 for Trio biscuits.....

" Suzi's gonna sing a song about a new chocolate biscuit called Trio...

The one in my earlier post is a late 70s ad for Newcastle Exhibition ... The one you've gotta come back for.....Smile

I think if the man himself comes on the radio and says it's not him, then chances are it's not him. Especially when -and this is important- it doesn't really sound like him.

Thank you Ian.

Stuart confirmed one Saturday afternoon that is was not his voice in the adverts-he mentioned this as he said to clear the matter up once and for all as he was getting tired about being asked about this over and over again.
