not exactly peeing down here in Norfolk at the moment, in fact it's been quite nice for most of the day ( as the chap from Gorleston commented on the Vine show today )
I've been up on the roof this morning trying to find the cause of a damp problem which hopefully; I have! tonight will tell...

I always careful but a few years back, I was "Up on the Roof" when the ladder blew down... I was stranded for an hour or so until I attracted somebody's attention!

You would think in this day and age that we could make it rain at night and be sunny during the day. If I were putting myself up for election I would base my campaign on that, I'm sure lots of people would vote for it. 
6-months post election victory - standing in Parliament Square - interview.... ... Secretary of State for Weather - " well of course the last Government left us in a bit a state weather wise- we have however, in spite of their mismanagement, managed to control the rain- you may have noticed that we've been able to make it rain consistently ( night and day) for the last two weeks - we see this as a huge step forward- all our efforts are now focused on a number of studies which we have instigated, and are due to report in a just few years time. As soon as we have the results of those , we'll be able to put any recommendations into place -and reduce the amount of daytime rainfall. Non of this is going to cost the income taxpayer a penny as we've introduced a new Brolly Tax to fund the studies. |

We were fortunate to get most of the last rainbelt overnight but the constant drip-drip is getting a bit wearisome.
Re Government intervention, in August 1976, at the end of a parchingly dry summer, the Goverment appointed a Minister for Drought, whereupon it started to rain and hardly stopped all autumn. Do we need a Minister for Too Much Rain?

Well, I'm happy enough since I've just re-turfed my front lawn today so some rain will mean I don't have to water it myself!
(The weather is preventing me getting out onto the hills, though.... grr!)

Considerable flooding in Warwickshire yesterday.
I had a meeting in Warwick in the morning, then off to the lovely village of Offchurch for lunch.
But yikes, the road from Cubbington to Offchurch was flooded, water looked 2 foot deep at the ford, my low level sporty Audi would not make it. Turn around, go via Hunningham, and I know what THAT has been like in the past (the Red Lion pub was flooded a year or so ago....). Well, the arches of the old bridge were underwater but I took the risk and crossed the bridge.
This is what the bridge normally looks like:
so, the water of the River Leam is about 12 foot deep.
Got over the bridge and the water is just a few feet from the pub door!!!
This is what the pub looked like a year or so ago,
not quite that bad today, not yet anyway ........
That wasn't where I was having lunch. Lunch was had here, The Stag, Offchurch, high and dry!

The Stag that I lunched at is what folk refer to these days as a 'fine dining' pub, quite expensive but fresh food menu, young trained staff, real napkins etc 'ye pays for what ye get' and I'd highly recommend it. It was very busy. A successful pub in the middle of nowhere is usually a good bet. Offchurch is between Leamington and Rugby and not far from the Fosse Way B4455.
Two pints, meal and dessert cost us 26 quid each!
My local by comparison would cost us about 13 quid each. But it's an Ember Inn with cheap meat and microwave pies/chips etc.
The Red Lion Hunningham that got flooded a while back was totally refurbished, be such a shame if the flood water reaches it again.

I blame the water companys. It is they who have decreed that we will not have any more sunny summers lasting beyond a couple of days, or else we will suffer hosepipe bans etc!!!
