Aled returns to the stage from 3 July to 30 August 2008, when he plays the lead role of Caractacus Potts in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. He will perform a remarkable 68 shows in the 8-week season.

So we may not hear much of him over the summer on Two?

I haven't seen the touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but saw the oringinal production with Michael Ball in several times. It's a lovely feelgood show. Aled will make a fine Caractacus Potts I'm sure.

All the best for a great run. Very Happy hope the car doesn't break down.

Aled did not do last week's "Good Morning Sunday" as last week was the first week of Chitty, and he had done 2 shows Saturday, and I guess they thought it would be too much even for someone as willing to be in three places at once as him at the end of his opening week! So that was arranged in advance. My understanding is that he will be doing GMS for the rest of the summer, somehow fitting it in around Chitty.

"The Choir" on radio 3 finishes after this weekend, I think, as it will be The Proms - I am assuming so anyway - so that will finish. The Songs of Praise highlights, which will be shown over the summer, Aled has already filmed. And "Friday Night is Music Night" - he is on tomorrow on a programme pre-recorded in May, but obviously won't be able to do any more until Chitty is over.

And the initial reviews seem postive, Heloise! Very Happy

It's certainly do..able. For the first month of Sunday Brunch Michael Ball was still doing eight shows a week in 'Hairspray'. Since May until October it'll be seven Tues, Wed, two Thurs, Fri and two Sat (except for a couple of nights off for some open air concerts).

Glad to hear it, have you seen it yet ? Who are the other leads ?

Re doing the shows, there are I think 2 differences for Aled from Michael Ball. Firstly, Michael was in London, wasn't he? Aled will have to get from Cardiff to London or Manchester, or they will have to arrange for the programme to be broadcast from Cardiff, being linked to his usual production team (I suppose). A little more complicated. If he were in London he could just turn up at Broadcasting House. And secondly, he will have to be in the studio, wherever it is, by 6.00 on a Sunday morning, having done 2 shows on a Saturday, not finishing the second until 10.30 or so, so presumably not leaving Cardiff to go wherever until after 11.00. He is also doing at least one concert in the middle, in Lincoln in August.

No, I've not seen it yet- I'm going over to Cardiff to see it on July 24th

Sure...I was thinking more along of the different timescales. If a run is a finite one people can put up with things a bit more manic because it's only for a short time. Aled has already experienced this on SCD. If a run is longer or open ended obviously different precautions would naturally need to be taken. I hope I sounded supportive of Aled, certainly intended to...both are busy busy are the moment that's for sure. Smile

It will be interesting to see what happens with GMS. Perhaps a combination of all the options. pre-record, O.B., or broadcasting from London. Might not even let on where he is broadcasting from Laughing Laughing I know Sunday Brunch is coming from up north next weekend (can't remember where studio wise) because MB is in Liverpool for a concert on the Saturday night...I'm kinda hoping his guest will be Michael Buble because he is performing at the same venue on the Sunday night.

Thanks for the links..

One of the reasons I so rarely post on here is because of the totally unecessary sarcastic comments from some posters, spoiling a perfectly positive thread.

So you don't like Aled. I happen to know him a bit and find him a genuinely "nice" person - I wish there were more like him around. Exciting? I didn't realise everyone had to be "exciting". He is actually a very interesting man, as if that matters, anyway. If you don't like him, why read the thread? Don't listen to his programmes,(I guess you don't anyway), don't go to see him - but why the need for the nastiness?

And no, l will not answer again, I've given the info I know in response to the questions of others, and will retreat back into silence again.
