Can you still get Ruddles County? It seems like several years since I last saw it in a pub.

No, I've not seen it either. I thought Guinness was his tipple of choice, anyway.

I have no clue about beer - never drink it, never have, never will....I probably saw Ruddles County last time I was in a Pub... many years ago.. Smile

Owing to a visitor who spent the latter part of last week eating everything we had in the house, (blimey could he eat!) I didn’t get my usual synopsis of the show into print. What do you mean, yay! ? All that is gone now, and so, to the nub….

The cult grows ever stronger with the nights getting longer, each passing day brings with it extra darkness and opportunity to save money on sunscreen. In just a few short months the darkness will reign with majesty over daytime as the light fades into insignificance …

Sezzsuth’s words of wisdom for today are …

“The Lark sees all but sows not”

Those words alone are reason to send suitcases of cash to Sezzsuth and sign up to a new and free life of … well, things….. that are new and free…

Also on this morning’s show- Cult music! Which would be the best tracks to get the cult to bind together as one in a mish-mash of love and happiness.

Check out Alex’s weekly blog for a picure of him in his White Guru outfit….

Tribute acts that never were but should have been. Can you think of any?

Morning, Rachel. Sorry to hear about your visitor with the voracious appetite. We have one of those as well - it's called a son, and unfortunately he's a permanent visitor.

While it's still summer. and as he's got the outfit for it, can he not be a White Knight for a bit? The long, cold evenings will be here all too soon and we don't care much for them.

Unless he's a messy eater

If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me? (too obvious, perhaps)

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me?
or
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me if it's an American cult

Gruff Pilchard
The Small Faeces
Banana Loaf

If only I were awake at the time to lend him the benefit of these suggestions (I'm sure someone else will have done) Very Happy

Ladies and Gentlemen pin your ears back for the delightful, the delectable, the unflappable, the unstoppable, the undeniably fantabulous, more than a one man woman magnet he’s the one man woman magnate - fresh in, from the broken shower , put your hands together for.... …. Mr Alex Lester!……. Yay!

Sezzsuth says – “Many a golden casket houses a worthless treasure within.”…..

Hmmm…. Hang on …. My hair is gold!

All new Tuesday includes:-

The Circus of Fools- who would you recruit for a traditional old style circus of fools?

A naked circus!
TV Chefs
DJs

Put cameras in the House of Commons- Doh! That’s been done already.

Boasting!! We are far too modest. We should and will boast more about more things and more often. We are going to be the best boasters ever , nobody will ever boast like we do. My mum, and she’s the best mum in the world by the way, said that we were all boasting before we could even talk.

Where is Bono? Is there more than one Bono? He’s everywhere!… Join Bonowatch to keep tabs…..

Also .. get your knees out and get them in.....

Having been woken up at half-two by a dozy wasp bumbling about in the dark and divebombing us (though not dozy enough, since it took half an hour to dispatch it without doing irrepairable damage to the ozone layer), I got to hear almost two hours this morning, up to shortly after the point where he followed the sublime Paul Simon with the ridiculous American AOR posturing of late-career, past their sell-by date, Magnum.

I thought he was flogging a dead horse a bit with the Circus of Fools (of which there are so many ready-made) and the posh job titles. Even the Sezzuth was a variation on a well-worn theme.

I hadn't realised that the tribute band topic was to pick out artistes who didn't have tribute or copyists, rather than thinking up names for them. The late Jake Thackeray was mentioned as one who has no imitator, although his inimitable style was itself heavily influenced by Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens and Noel Coward.

So my three suggestions would have been out of order, as would a fourth, taken from last night's New Tricks - Bad Faith.

Other than the Magnum aberration (which was a listener's library choice) music was good, though. Very Happy

Much as yesterday as far as subject matter is concerned. More Circus of Fools stuff.

In the first hour I thought, oh no! Has the Cult collapsed , are the nuts roasting in the burning building? But then calm was once again restored in hour two when…

Sezzsuth said….

“those who live behind the veil of ignorance will never know inner peace”

Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..

I have a visit to the dentist this morning (The Driller Killer) for a check-up and … well to be frank , I’m a little nervous; not about the dentist, oh no, he’s lovely (South African) , I’m nervous about parking, you see the chances are I’m going to have to reverse into a space on quite a busy road. Not had to reverse this car since I bought it 18 months ago………… more later ….......

much later..... and back from the dentist. Very Happy Nothing needs doing Very Happy

I was thinking while laying back and sucking on the dentist's warm, latex wrapped fingers as he prodded his way around my mouth, maybe I should update this diary weekly or maybe monthly would suffice? Still thinking though.....

Shocked

Car's reverse gear works OK then, Rach?

Woke up to the last few chords of Cat Stevens this morning, so missed everything, including any nocturnal insect life, thank goodness. (SK sounded unusually alive and brisk this morning - wonder if she'd been to her dentist yesterday Wink Perhaps not, we'd have heard all about it if she had)

Today's soothsaying I wholeheartedly agree with.

What would I do without your daily diary update (I know..., don't tell me) Very Happy

I'm sure the dentist enjoys it. Wink

It was a bit stiff at first Ron. Getting into the space was much easier than I had anticipated it might be... but getting out again was a nightmare because the car in front had changed and was much closer than when I parked.

I'd like to think Ron, Smile that like me, without this daily update .. your's and other reader's lives would become a hollow, empty and pointless existance with all hope and aspirations abandoned under the weight of the never ending oppresive gloom that is everyday life without a mention of Alex but I suspect that unlike me, you and the others have much more depth and substance to your being and would get over it rather quickly, filling the void with perhaps, a quick cup of tea and a glance out of the window before getting on with matters important Smile

I'm such a dork! Very Happy

More Circus of fools stuff this morning – I think I get it now , there’s some production going on there! It’s a different category of circus every day – today it was a soap star circus…… ..I’m such a clown… J

A little more Bonowatch… he was just down the road here earlier being reprimanded by the Local Authority Trees Officer for throwing sticks into the Conker Trees … wait til the wind blows Bono.. and talking of wind…..

Sezzsuth’s sooth-saying for today is :- The harder the wind blows, the stronger is the resolve of the soul”……

Bono is on the nail with this one Sezza baby! If the sticks don’t work , climb that tree and shake it into submission….then, stand triumphantly high in the branches and yell to world , “come and get the conkers…fill your boots. I never wanted them, the tree has me!”… ooh there’s deep!

Talking of trees…

Wood watch….Wood is good and cheaper! Did your parents make or buy you any wooden toys ?….Alex had and still has a wooden spirograph his dad made for him. I’d like to see that. Blog picture perhaps? The wooden toy in my memory- wasn’t actually one of mine, it was a large wooden triangle at playgroup which looked to a 4 year old, like a guitar …. Loved it!

A fantastic selection of tracks this morning too..

Not the harder the wind blows, the higher the kilt flies, then.

Wooden toys are fiendishly expensive, were so even when our lad was a nipper. I remember even those Brio train sets, which were wooden but not wood (I don't think), cost a fortune. So his hand-made spirograph should be a valuable antique in years to come...

In the land of nod as usual. Looked at the playlist - I could live quite happily without hearing Year Of The Cat and Good Tradition ever again. (Al Stewart is a favourite - I must send him a library suggestion from the hundreds of his other excellent songs that never get a look-in)

What a fab show this morning. The circus of fools was musicians/artists….. They’re too funny to put into type though Laughing - you’ll have to listen…

Sezzsuth’s sooth saying for a weekend of enlightenment is…

“Even the most humble pebble on a beach has been through the most incredible journey”…..hmmmm very deep Question

and Blubber watch …. Just how much weight has Alex shed this week….??? Listen in to find out ….J

More wooden toys, more Bonowatch……and music that really says something….. ....

Guess what?

What

There's a whole 5 more shows next week!

A fab start to the week- old grumpy guts Alex Smile (it’s the diet- everyone on a diet is grumpy) told us how he drew a line in the sand when it came to a Ł3 pint in a plastic beaker in one drinking establishment, and in another it was the noisy children. My dad when he was here was ever so vexed if we went to a pub for a quiet lunch only to find it full of noisy urchins ( as he called them). Of course Alex, it could be divine intervention, helping you with your diet – all that extra walking to the other pubs… Smile

What have you taken a stand over?

I once took a stand over a Prawn Salad on a hot plate in a Roadside Pub and also- you know those little “tell us what you think cards” in hotels… well – I filled one in after staying in Blackpool for two weeks… posted it off and expected to hear nothing more. The head office phoned about a week later. After some discussion, I expressed a strong desire never to stay in their hotel again. A week later they wrote to me offering a “free holiday”, so I phoned them again, saying look , I don’t want to stay in your hotel again. They offered to pay for me to stay in a different hotel and added that there must be something they could do. No, I said, then put the phone down.

Sezzsuth’s soothy words of wisdom to kick off the week are….

“Those who speed to reach their goal frequently end up taking the longest route.”

The Circus of Fools is full to bursting with TV presenters today…. J

Mood hats – does how you wear your hat indicate your mood?

This is not show related, I’m going to blog this in my vicar’s wife blog later but since none of you get to read my blog, I’ll put in here too. My mum has a Parrot called Elvis.. bright orange and very noisy. Her friendly little fella is always on or around her, nibbling her ears or the phone when we’re talking- sometimes she leaves me to talk to the Parrot if her doorbell rings when we’re talking…” hello Elvis- how are you this week?” Squawk! yesterday though … no Parrot. So I asked, where’s Elvis this week? Oh that <bleep><bleep>is in trouble and he’s being punished, she said.. Really! What’s he done? He’d only nibbled a hole in her new cardigan. Of course I’m in a giggle fit by now.. What’s funny? That little <bleep> has ruined my new cardi ….So I asked , what’s his punishment? She said with a determined satisfaction , I’ve put him in his cage! . Oh great mum that’ll show him- like when you used to send us to bed if we were naughty when we were little ….. and you’ll stay in that cage until you learn to say you're sorry! You're sorry, squawk!!! You're sorry....

I'm with your dad and Alex, I'm afraid. I cannot stand pubs where families seem to allow their offspring to run riot most of the time whilst eating. We didn't allow our's to - the pub table is the home dining table, just somewhere else, and we always insisted that he sat still, just as we were expected to in the bad old, good old 50s/60s.

I did once embarass my wife by walking out of somewhere that was going to charge me the earth for drinks, but usually I have to bite my tongue and remember I'm on holiday.

I have a variation on Sezzuth - "Those who speed (past us) to reach their goal frequently get through the next set of traffic lights just before they turn to red" Evil or Very Mad

A parrot called Elvis... They had a spot of bother with one of those up Bradford way - http://arbroath.blogspot.com/2008/06/elvis-parrot-threatened-with-asbo.html Smile

Heard the last half-hour this morning. Strange Hollies track out of the listener's library.

Cool beans" another Parrot called Elvis .. my mum's Parrot is bright orange all over, he's cute.

Sitting still and being quiet at the dining table, I've never grown out of doing that- hubby is always saying ... "Talk to me!". After dinner I say to him , "we were never allowed to talk at the table"... he says ,"yeah but you're a grown up now , grown ups can talk at the table".....
It never leaves you though does it?

Turned me into the most boring dinner guest ever. Smile

Ah yes the traffic light teasers ... life will catch them all up one day.

When Alex said about landlords dimming the lights for that "romantic feeling" had me in stitches. "But it's just me in here! I can't read my paper now!" Excellent radio.

School Reports: very topical. How do you let your children know that their school report is …well,’’’. “disappointing” without squashing their inspiration and creativity? Oh and your child is 6 foot 1 and 15 stone…. Cattle Prod? Laughing

Swap their Playstation for a ZX Spectrum and give them three TV channels that closedown at midnight. Smile

In today’s Circus of Fools it was Newsreaders…Smile

“Go the other way”….. he he …Alex tried to avoid the congestion charge by going the “other way” ( no not that other way- look, a single guy knowing how to use a washing machine doesn’t mean anything these days )..he went by another route. That reminded me of a old colleague known as “Back Street Jim” …. He knew a short cut to everywhere from anywhere … I remember saying to him…. “ Jim, if this is a shorter way, why do you have to go so fast?” I think Jim is solely responsible for speed bumps in residential areas all over London.

Sezzsuth’s soothy words of soothdom for today are….

“Fear is like fire, when it gets out of hand , it can destroy everything in its path”

Hmmmmm sort of … best to have No fear I think, life is a very long staring competition with death, knowing all along that death will win but when he does, make it because you concede it on your terms, not his….

Also Pedometer pedantry….oh some people can be so picky….

True, but it is in our nature to have fear, and if we didn't we wouldn't know how far to push ourselves. (I'm not very good at deep and philosophical)

It's a good job that there's little danger of the Dark Lord being "promoted" - he'd be totally wasted during the day.

I think if Alex were on a fulltime daytime show, as much as I'd like that, he'd soon feel suppressed , and I wouldn't like that at all. He's at his best when running wild and free at night- a warm beer deep in his belly, the wind in his hair, a pasty on his mind, and a stack of CDs between his teeth. He's the Sandman who can turn a dream into reality at the push of a button.

Mr Sandman bring me a dream.......

Just a quickie today – as I’m off to the Post Office in a mo and I may just take in a few shops too. (Look, there’s a shoe shop near the Post Office- what did you think would happen?)

A burst water main near Lester Towers yesterday – washing machine unavailable…so it was fabreeze, a coat hanger and an open window ?

Historical Military figures made their way into the circus of fools this morning…. My choice would be Vlad the Impaler as the knife thrower… Smile

Also Hollywood clichés – the phrase that pays – what really bad howlers and one liners have you heard at the movies?

Moral Dilemmas… lots of em….just go with what feels right.

Alex bought a new CD yesterday – but you’ll have to listen to find out which one…… I know …I’m a tease…..

Sezzsuth’s midweek injection of inspired soothdom was…

“ Many of the things you can’t remember are best left forgotten.”

Now I'm envious - a lady who looks for shoes on her own, rather than dragging OH along!

I'm never very good at Hollywood howlers, but I seem to remember that quite a lot were used up at the end of Pretty Woman and Four Weddings And A Funeral.

His new CD must have been Mamie Lee (since it was only released on Monday). Sounded OK for Northern Soul but I'm always suspicious when the most radio-friendly track is the one that's included as a "Bonus".

I'm back now... Smile just one pair too ...I learned a long time ago that men and shoe shopping don't mix that well, they end up liking anything you hold up, just to get it over with... I like Brantano cos it's so much easier .. none of that , do you have these in a 6?

Is it raining? I hadn't noticed. Smile

Ah no it's not a new CD Ron ,it's new to Alex's collection - tis quite an old one I think ... In through the Out Door- Led Zeppelin... he played Fool in the Rain from it.... deep and meaningful lyrics Crying or Very sad

Credit crunch camping! Holidays at home was the theme of today’s show. How to create sun, sea, sand and other holiday sensations right in your own back yard.
Paint your garden shed pink and white, just like a beach hut.. a couple of bags of silver sand and a build your own pier kit, and Bob’s yer Auntie’s other half.

Sezzsuth's- soothy thought for Thursday is…..

“The wise man thinks he’s more clever than the fool but the fool is wise enough not to proclaim his intelligence”

The circus of fools today :- man and beast…

Lots about bonking Lions too….

Oh and the umbrella mystery ….. sort of revealed
… or is it? There’ll be a picture on Alex’s blog this week. It could be a secret sign similar to the old OMO washing power in the window scandal or maybe the people in that flat are just practicing an umbrella balancing on the doorknob act , for the next series of Britain’s got Talent.

Make the most of this one , cos it’s the last one of the week……

Great music this morning…..

Neighbour's burglar alarm went off at three this morning (what with that and the wasp last week I shall be glad when the cold nights return and we can keep the windows closed) so I heard nearly all of today's (was a false alarm, you'll be glad to know - I didn't have to investigate personally, as it woke at least six other people up who ventured out in various states of undress (not a pretty sight) so I left it to them.)

The painting of the garden shed reminded me of the occasion Ground Force painted someone's fence blue and the neighbours complained to the local council Laughing

The Manimals brought forth a lot of ventriloquists' dummies. Lenny the Lion was such a wuss - I always wanted him to devour Lambchop. In fact I hated them all, except Roger de Courcey's Nookie Bear, until I saw his live act, which was full of F's, and I went off him too.

Sezzsuth was wonderfully...

Music was good, until the Bluebells, and Starship, just over-played, which finally got me off for an hour.

Have a lovely weekend, Rachel. Smile

Monday is such a great day!

As the credit crunch bites get more of that holiday feeling at home by turning your house into an airport. Yes! It’s the way to get away without going. Sleep on the floor for a few days – read a book you’d never normally read and snuggle up to strangers just to keep warm….

Olympics 2012 - outdo the Chinese by having an opening ceremony on the cheap.

Jezza Clarkson cuts a ribbon
Chas and Dave, sings… then….
Morris Dancing and a Giant Car Boot Sale….

The thing that worries me about the 2012 Olympics is Health and Safety… once those guys get to hear that there’ll be lots of running, jumping about and throwing things , they’ll come down on it like a tonne of bricks… it’ll be all hard hats when the hammer throwing is on, stab vests when it’s time for the javelin, steel toecap boots for the runners in case they stub their toes……

And the medals – all that gold and silver and stuff is expensive … how about we melt down the bendy busses and make the medals from those, or maybe those chocolate coins you get at Christmas … sellotape a bit of ribbon onto those….

And what about… all those people who don’t win a medal? Surely they’ll be psychologically damaged and may sue as a result? So to counter that we should give everyone attending an A* GCSE in attendance and a party bag with a small (very small) piece of Olympic Cake and a balloon with the words “ I blew it at London 2012.

Bored at the weekend? Murder your freezer! Defrost it with a knife…..

Blubberwatch is going well …. Week 2 it’s another –3 … woohoo!

Cracking show this morning- Alex on top form and great music too….I’m on cloud nine or is it cuckoo land……. I don’t care cos, it feels great!

Morning, Rachel. A cool and breezy night meant bedroom windows were shut and we were free of insect and alarm interruptions, so missed the show completely and I'm glad to have your synopsis.

The holiday at home / home airport thing was running on Friday morning. One chap suggested buying a Stannah stairlift to use as a cable car then ski down the bannister/mountain. Obviously doesn't know how much stairlifts cost.

Clarkson's far too expensive. Carol Vorderman might be in need of a bob or two by then, though. There's always Boris of course - he'd probably insult somebody and thereby save us all the bother by making the opening ceremony the closing one as well.

Great idea to make the medals out of bendy buses (do you know it's going to take London seven years to get rid of them - contractural obligations and all that - and then they're coming to a town near you)

Worried about the 2012 Olympics? Best time to go on holiday abroad, I reckon. Start saving now...

My dad used to attack the freezer with a knife, and kettles full of boiling water - turned the kitchen into a sauna. How he never sliced the wiring or his fingers I'll never know (I'm a coward - bought frost free as soon as they were available)

Morning Ron,

ah yeah interwebbing on Friday's and the weekend is tricky for me. The lord of the manor keeps me on a short leash ( well he knows what I'm like) So I didn't get to hear all of Friday's show.... but come Monday morning I'm the Chatelaine once again...

We're frost free here too. Does your's make loud clicking/cluncking noises? Makes me jump.

2012 .. it's worse than that - the sailing is happening just down the road at Weymouth... it's gonna be a nightmare to get anywhere......

We have little yellow busses here and big grey/purple ones I think they are called "First" ....surely they can't all be?

Boris ... Smile what a great idea!

And there was me half-imagining that you had a weekend off and he was whisking you away somewhere... Very Happy

Yes, our freezer makes noises. As if there's a little elf in there chipping away with a knife!

The Countryfile programme on Sunday (BBC1 11.00, so you'd be otherwise occupied, I expect) focused on Weymouth, interviewing people who were getting excited about the business they expect to get in four years' time, and the increased tourism they're already getting as more people holiday in the UK (cue shot of packed beach).

No TV on a Sunday (til the evening anyway)... it's all cooking and crosswords, so I spent the weekend whisking away to yells for help.... "1 down .. man's best friend, 3 letters... D something G ....any ideas?"......

The funny thing is there is no room in Weymouth for anything new... so I've no clue where they are all going to stay .... a couple of cruise ships perhaps.... Smile

Ours has a similar elf inside ...really noisey little fella

....."Is it Horse?"

All new Tuesday strikes again:-

Cutting it fine. No, not Alex’s hair. Cheating the Congestion Charge by just one minute. Is that possible- how can you be sure?

Controlling the Credit Crunch – is all that penny pinching a false economy? What with the cat claw clipping capers and the T-shirt Dye-sasters: in short, it’s looking good. Framed Bermudas nailed to the wall and multi coloured dusters- libido-boy is on a roll saving cold hard cash hand over fist.

More credit crunch holidays – the sea shanty cruise, Glasto in the garden – tent, lawn-sprinkler and a radio…….car park holiday’s too. Now we’re really saving.

My mum’s false economy is buying things she doesn’t need at car boot sales, and then keeping herself warm with thoughts of how much money she’s saved.

“but mum you don’t need a two-ton trolley jack, you don’t even have a car”

Stating the obvious surveys…’A’ levels are easier than they used to be. NSS!

And lots of good music too!

That's one way of checking whether your watch is accurate, but perhaps not the safest. One tock too many and it'll blow the credit crunch penny-pinching to smithereens.

Car park holidays are a bit close for comfort - someone has already done that at a one of the companies on a trading estate not far away, when they forgot to close the gate at the weekend.

Caught a snippet of journalist Peter Riddell talking to Eamonn Holmes on Sunday. Said he tried to sit a current A-level, albeit without the usual revision, preparation and coursework, and he wasn't so sure they are easier. On the one hand why should better results automatically mean that they're easier, rather than the students working harder for them. On the other, I'd be more convinced about the better performance if, when they leave school with three A*s, or university with degrees come to that, they could string a few words together to make an intelligible sentence and you could read their writing.

That CD of the Standing In The Shadows Of Motown film is great. The bass of those old instrumental tracks is so deep it makes the glasses in our wall unit vibrate. (When no-one else is around, of course)

Missed it all "in the flesh" this morning. Only the torrential rain woke us up, at 7.15, causing a stampede for the bathroom and some indelicate language all round.

Apology.

Due to a colossal misunderstanding of something known as bandwidth (whatever that is?), my on-line listening to the best time of the day show, using the I-player, has exceeded the aforementioned allowable bandwidth on our ISP contract. By a not inconsiderable amount apparently. (Send more money now or else!) Anyway to cut a long conversation to the nub, my wrist was slapped (not hard of course) by he who must be obeyed; Maybe it’s divine intervention, and I should be doing more worthwhile things with my life anyway. So I’m sorry to report that today’s synopsis of the show is unavailable. Not for any technical reason but because “someone” forgot to push the record button on my back-up method of listening to the show. My little MP3, record it live off air box of tricks was taken out of mothballs last night but in all the excitement the record button remained un-pressed as my head hit the pillow. Doh!

I fondly imagine that today’s show was full to bursting with fantastic stuff as usual.

Now I have temptation!!!… Do I click on the I-player? Do I? Do I ? Do I? Or do I go and make a nice Apple Pie for the man in black……

Piny on!

Normal service will be resumed… maybe.

Oh dear, what a shame! Hope your exertion in baking goes to assuage the withdrawal symptoms. My mouth is watering from here (I may have mentioned it before on here, but my grandmother used to make a divine apple pie, the like of which I have not quite tasted since, which used to take the pain out of my having to endure Sing Something Simple on the radio after Pick of the Pops of a Sunday tea-time. Being the 60s it was probably full of naughty things like lard, butter, sugar, syrup)

Most of the ISPs were complaining about the popularity and bandwidth consumption of the BBC i-Player. That's what happens when 21st century technology still depends on pre-historic BT wiring. In return for having all our roads and pavements dug up 12 years ago we have (touch wood) trouble free and limitless broadband from Virgin, but I'm no doubt paying through the nose for it in comparison.

Alex's music list looks good, apart from the odd Mariah Carey Laughing

This is not really on topic Ron but I don’t think anyone will notice or mind that much even if they did. The best time of the day show is well known for going a little off-beat anyway – so it seems fitting that this thread from time to time can emulate the Master by doing the same thing….

My apple pie (It smells delicious) is now on the cooling rack along with a tasty little fella. As ever there was a little pastry left over, so I rolled it into a little man shape, sprinkled him with sugar and baked him to perfection. (I shall have him after lunch)

I learned to bake when living with my Great Grandma. My mum was very often out on the road with her drumming rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle she had then, and her mum lived miles away, so that left me with a very old woman who looked not unlike Queen Victoria. She taut me how to do everything properly, so my baking, is as traditional as it comes. Although I do a great healthy pastry these days most of the time made with Olive Oil and water; now and again, like today, I make it properly- Great Grandma’s way. Yummy!

The apples are from our garden here (last year’s- blanched and frozen) … lots of sugar. It will be served hot with ice cream for hubby but myself, I prefer it hot with ice cold milk.

We don’t have any of those fancy fibre-optics here – streetlights are a luxury.

Yeah the music list looks great! It is on topic after all!… Nice recovery!….

Walking for after-shave and the great cheese mystery. I reckon there’s a book there Alex.

How far would you walk for your favourite splash on?

My fav, is Chanel Coco Mademoiselle- I get it from Boots On line, sometimes that and my smile is all I’m wearing….

Bulk Buying to save cash…. Beware the unmarked tins …… Oh mum it’s cat-food again!

Olympic Watch …. Why are we so good at holiday camp events?

Bartering for beer – what would you offer in exchange for a pint of beer? A brace of Pheasants? A tin of beans? Perhaps if you have a trade, you’d offer a service? What would that be…

The missing concert? Two ticket stubs, one memory. There’s a love song there. It’s in there somewhere Alex, have you tried memory massage therapy?

Not just great music this morning but great music and Pink Floyd -Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun from ,A Saucerful of Secrets….too!! Woohoo!

Way back when, I remember I was most put out when they discontinued my favourite everyday after-shave/cologne - Goya's Cedar Wood - and trekked round many a Boots to try and find the last few bottles (could have been worse - at least it wasn't Brut or Hai Karate: like fly spray, both)

Hold that thought a minute... Cool

My favourite is usually whatever someone gives me at Christmas. Actually Dolce & Gabbana Masculine is very nice, and I'm dropping hints already.

Had a chap at work who used to do that, and went round his local Somerfield in the evening to buy all the stuff that was reduced because it was going black or out of date. Seemed to live on cornish pasties, cauliflower and ripe bananas, and the tins which were usually either prunes or marrowfat peas.

Sounds as though it was a cracking show today - just had a brief listen, to reacquaint myself with the Floyd, must be 40 years since I last heard that. James Blunt and Pink Floyd, eh? Only on the BBC. That Melody Gardot is nice and dreamy as well.

Blimey, haven't heard that for many years. As me and my pals were pretend Hippies, we'd listen to that LP over and over with just a red light on for maximum effect... Rolling Eyes far out man.
