Ah - The one we all love to hate, ripping off Werewolves of London and Sweet Home Alabama.
Second best track off the album, allegedly, is So Hot!!!

it might be "real" music but its not "original" music is it?
i have a real problem with song writers who copy another bands music note for note, or in this case two bands. its just LAZY!
People like madonna are just as bad but at least the melody of the lyrics is different to the "stolen" tune.
its one thing to be influenced by a bands music but to just rip it off(even though they have to ask the original artists permission to use it) is bad in my books.
they could learn a thing or two from the guy who does the music for the simpsons. on an incredibly tight schedule he comes up with a tune that is easily identifiable as being the original song but hes managed to change it enough to be different ( an excellent example is the theme from "cheers" revamped as "flaming moes") you know where its come from but its not note for note
im afraid this song has only managed to make me fed up of listening to 3 songs in one go. _________________ "Timpani!, Timpani!, They've all got it Timpani!"- All drummers know the pain of skin trouble. |

I know on a recent track Madonna sampled Abba, but at least most of her stuff is her own. I don't know how long Kid Rock has been around, 'All Summer Long' is the first I've heard of him. I liked the track when it first came out but, like so many, got over played. I wouldn't call it real music though as I believe that has to be original and (preferably) played with real instruments rather than sampled from other peoples recordings. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

He had a pretty famous duet with Cheryl Crowe a while ago, although Kid Rock is probably more famous in the US than here. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Kid Rock very clearly references Lynyrd Skynyrds "Sweet Home alabama". Nothing at all wrong with that
Woody Guthrie & Bob Dylan freely used tunes from other songs to compose new songs.
The results were good & the results for kid rock are good as this world wide hit prove |

3 wrongs dont make a right
well his first 3 hits here got no further than no. 25 so hopefully by "appealing" to lynyrd skynyrd and warren zevon fans in addition to his own he may indeed get a "worldwide" smash.
its my opinion of the song, not the artist(because i cant recall hearing anything else of his) or your taste in music. i assume you wanted to hear other peoples opinions when you started the thread? _________________ "Timpani!, Timpani!, They've all got it Timpani!"- All drummers know the pain of skin trouble. |

Warren Zevon doesn't even rate
Ever met a warren Zevon fan?
The song is up there because it is a fine tune
And Dylan is a superb songwriter. Some of his finest songs referenced folk melodies |

ok lets try this another way.
bob dylan is indeed a great songwriter. we agree.
kid rock is a successful artist with well over 20 million album sales to his name. we agree
its ok to use other peoples tunes, even though (in the case of "all summer long")when the tune was used by the original artist you considered it to be of a quality that "doesnt even rate" but now its being used by someone you clearly idolise it is suddenly a top tune . we disagree
i like queen . you may not . you may come back with a load of reaons why you think theyre crap. that would be your opinion which would not affect me one jot as that is your opinion to which you are entitled. but even a group i like ripped off the bassline from chics "good times" for anotherone bites the dust .
i just feel that with artists of the calibre of dylan, rock and queen that they are more than capable of coming up with an original tune to go with the lyrics without resorting to being apathetic. if kid rock had done that with "all summer long" i would more than likely be supporting your view of his record. we will never know.
dont let it rule you. i can live with the fact that you like it. _________________ "Timpani!, Timpani!, They've all got it Timpani!"- All drummers know the pain of skin trouble. |

That's ok, Seymour!
Everyone likes different music.
I don't mean to compare Kid rock to Dylan as a songwriter. Clearly he is not in that league
I like some of his stuff, others I am not too keen on.
I just think it is refreshing having a nice tune with musical roots not comming out of an electro drum machine in the charts! |

I think there is so much stuff out there that almost seems to have no connection with music at all! |

I too thought it was a good song until it was totally overplayed (yet another one, sigh)
I don't think it was a rip off personally, To me it seems like a warm hearted tribute to a couple of songs that were a big part of his youger years, which fit in well with the sentiment of the song. |
