I understand some music critic has done a hatchet job on Abba and received a storm of abuse over it...
Listening to the debate on the Vine show today, I align myself with those who were secretly fascinated by Abba at the time but didn't dare admit it to my friends.
I do believe I like them even more today!
But I'm surprised nobody mentioned the two girls as a major part of the attraction!
I remember all of my mates drooling over them - their appearance ( fancying either the blonde or brunette ), they way they looked at each other in their videos and that broken English too.
( When Nena of 99 Red Balloons fame made it big here it was established on Radio1 that males loved foreign girls speaking in broken English )
Yes I admit it, I'm still captivated by Agnetha! but listening to most of their songs today, I firmly believe they deserve all the praise they get. But, as mentioned on the show, on a par with the Beatles? Nooooo way. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Hello Santafe - See http://www.r2ok.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=3703
I have always liked their music, as pure, catchy pop - even most of the non-singles album tracks are singalong - but I have to agree with what Neil McCormick said. No, they didn't come near the Beatles, and no, I never fancied any of them - the girls were too cold and glossy - but yes, I saw and enjoyed, despite its faults, Mamma Mia in the West End. _________________ Ron |
