Looks really good! I'm assuming it's only via the web? I like the look of the 5pm show... Razz
When you say he posts at the R2ok Yahoo site, do you mean this one? I don't get the Yahoo bit.
If so, I wonder who it is?? Confused

Pete Murray was on The Big Show recently talking about Radio Luxembourg, I'm surprised he didn't mention this.

Yes, looks good. They are developing a proper website too.

Ah, before we had THIS forum there was a yahoo messageboard, not as quick/reactive as this place. It still exists but no postings for a year until member malcyb posted about the Light Radio

If it's malcyb who has put up the site, he is into several nostalgia subjects. He might have another ID on here, not sure, can't remember. I'll try and persuade him to post here.

Just having a little listen now - Tony Currie has obviously got to get used to the equipment because he's played Theme From a Summer Place instead of Ray Martin's Whistling Sergeant Major. Got it right eventually, now it's Tony Hatch's ersatz version of the Association's Windy - hope there's not going to be too much of that sort of thing - but overall it sounds good.

This is just a test transmission that started officially today.

Just heard Pete Murray introduce his show - and there was a word from Tony Blackburn too! They must be lining up some big names for this station!

Pete is very chatty, with an 'awful' story from his past about James Last Rolling Eyes

There's Brian Kay's light music programme at 2pm (as 2am). Brian was dropped by Radio 3 last year. Hopefully he'll be playing British Light Music from the likes of Eric Coates, Elgar, Butterworth etc and maybe some Strauss, Holst, Vaughan Williams, sadly absent from Radio 2 and rare on Radio 3 these days.

Yes, Tony was live, Pete obviously pre-recorded.

Great selection of music; Pete wouldn't have been playing much of this in his old Light Programme/Radio 2 days, but never mind, nice to hear him again.

James Last's English is still not too hot (but it's better than my German) Laughing

Notice your attempts to let people know on the BBC R2 board didn't survive very long, John.

Friday always was a bad day for the mods.

Yes, yet you'd think the same mods (?) would remove the similar message posted at R3 MB.

Had to go out this afternoon so missed Brian Kay's programme. Wondering if it's light classical or King's Singers!

He was on R3 this week talking about Tuesday's late prom featuring the singing group; he was a founder member yonks ago.

Ok so what am I doing wrong.. when I clicked on the link last night using my older Windows ME computer, it brings up Media Player - buffers up to about 8% then plays a 17 second clip of what I assume to be live radio.. then stops.
I tried it on my newer computer with Windows XP and it's doing exactly the same!
Are you folks getting continuous live radio?

Yes, I think Broadband might be essential for listening.

Listening in yesteday I heard another 'name' presenter, at noon, Nick Bailey. Nick used to have a five-night a week job at ClassicFM presenting the 'Evening Concert'.

It was never a 'concert' but just Nick playing complete longish classical works from CDs. He has a good 'radio voice' but clearly reads from a script. Yeah he may write out his own script but seemed to be cut'n'paste from CD liner notes. The programmes were good, though, because there were very few commercials, a three hour show might only have 6 commercials in total becase we were hearing works of half an hour each.

UKLightRadio is advert free, but only for now of course.

Anyway Nick sounded OK yesterday playing Nat King Cole and the like.

Hi SanteFe,

Can you listen to other internet stations?

Have you got the most up to date Windows Media Player as well?

I seem to remember you didn't have problems with the Pirate radio last year.

I got excellent reception from this radio station both yesterday and the day before.

I would be interested to hear Tony Currie, who I will be meeting at a convention towards the end of September, but I certainly like what I have heard so far,

Good luck to all concerned with this venture.

Hi Helen,
Thanks for that, yes, last year the pirate broadcasts were coming over fine.
I just tried a couple of stations but they too are "buffering up", playing until the seek bar reaches the end, stopping and buffering again so it must be a problem with my connection I reckon.
I'm not surprised as, following some work here, my BT white box with the phone jack has ended up outside!
It's probably got wet. Laughing

Yes, I'll replace the box tomorrow and tape it up for now.
It's just one of the countless jobs I have to get round to doing here.
At the moment, I'm not sure whether to go with BT for Broadband; in which case the box needs to go up to the roof or, with Virgin when the cable connection will be at the front of the house!

I'll get it sorted out this coming week I think, this new station looks really good.

We're wondering about changing over to BT as well. Not relishing the change though.

I'd always keep your dial up connection though as broadband can go down at times but the dial up still works!

I'm not sure if this new station is a bit too classical for me. I'll try a few of the shows and see.

H

PS It's a year since we were all listening to the Pirates.........

Helen,

Yes, do try a few of the shows.

There are 'classical' programmes but there are programmes playing all sorts of 'light' music including a lot of 'pop' music that was around in the 60s and 70s that I wouldn't have ever thought of listening to when I had long hair and an Indian pattern t-shirt, but I am enjoying today.

I am here at 2.00am because we've had a late time at the local pub, and I am delighted to say that, on listening, Brian Kay's programme is IDENTICAL to his much missed Radio 3 programme that was axed last year!

Hello forumers, malcyb here.
I have indeed been spreading the word about this new internet radio station which is due to start proper transmissions early next year. But I am not involved in the station itself. It is run by a chap called Andre Leon.
Andre has been in the industry a long time so I am confident the end result is going to be a success.
Here is the current test transmission scedule:

7am “RISE ‘N’ SHINE”
Tony Currie plays music for “early birds”, “The Piano Tuners” and “Tony’s Test Card Classics” are some of the daily features.

9am “THE PETE MURRAY SHOW”
Includes “Pete’s Juke Box Gem” and a “Saturday Matinee Movie Theme” – a morning of memorable music in the Murray manner!

10am “TURN BACK THE CLOCK”
With Mel Cooper. Music from many eras. Special Features: “Great Moments in Time” and “Listener’s Choice”

11am “THE CLASSIC COLLECTION”
Introduced by Margaret Howard.
Programmes will also be heard from Prague, Paris and Johannesburg with Libor Zavodny and Chris Turner.
------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Programmes from 12 noon will be repeated at midnight and through the night up to 07.00 for our Breakfast show, “Rise ‘n’ Shine” with Tony Currie.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12 noon “ENCORE”
With Nick Bailey. A line-up of Star Performers. The only programme with a “bonus track” every time!

1pm “CARNIVAL” During our test transmissions you can hear Nigel Hunter’s lively Saturday morning programme featuring a fiery fiesta of torrid Latin tempos.

2pm “THE LIGHTSWITCH”
Brian Kay presents an hour of outstandingly tuneful orchestral music for your easy listening pleasure.

3pm “MATINEE” at the MOVIES
Andre Leon presents popular film music and an interview with film music composer John Williams.

4pm “VIENNA BON BONS” - Greetings from Austria………
Paul Hollingdale takes us to an enchanting world which offers some of the most romantic, delightful and tuneful music of all time. Expect Johann Strauss plus more!

5pm “RADIO JUKE BOX”
Steve Blacknell and Brian Justice take a lighthearted look at pop music throughout the eras. Our first programme features the 1960’s.

6pm “NICE ‘N’ EASY”
Alison Mc Dowall. Soft lights and sweet music in our “early lounge”
Relaxing sounds at the end of the day and early in the morning.

7pm “BIG SCREEN LITTLE SCREEN”
David Stoner presents popular television and film music. Original sound-tracks and recent new recordings.

7.30pm “SING ALONG”
Half-an-hour of uninterrupted, foot-tapping songs!
including Billy Cotton, The Weavers, The Highwaymen, The Johnny Mann Singers and the Cliff Adams Singers!

8pm “SPECIAL OCCASION”
The first programme in the series is hosted by Bob Holness.
Bob introduces a “variety performance” line-up which includes Nat King Cole, Freddie Cole, Norrie Paramor, Sarah Vaughan and Billy Eckstine, to name just a few. There’s also a “Star Turn” from Frank Sinatra – on stage at the Sands in 1966!

9pm “RENDEZVOUS”
Sylvia Budd plays “romantic-music-for-romantic-people”
Music with a distinctly Continental flavour.

10pm “SYMPHONY OF STARS”
Nigel Hunter presents a glittering line-up. Amongst the galaxy are Frank Sinatra, Eydie Gorme, Fred Astaire, Doris Day, Sammy Davis Jnr. Nelson Riddle, Nat King Cole and Cliff Richard, who celebrates 50 glorious years in show business.

11pm “MAKING FOR MIDNIGHT”
The music is soft ‘n’ low in the “late lounge” with Richard Young.
Night lights is part of the drift up to the midnight hour. The sounds are sweet and gentle all the way.

Rather a long period of test transmitting, if they're not starting properly until the new year.

Mind you, I've just tried to go in, and am getting Server Unavailable.

Good to see malcyb has joined us, and thanks again for the UK Light Radio link.

I still have some presenters to listen to. I've had no problem here getting to the site and into their streaming radio.

I notice some shows seem to be 'borrowed' from other similar stations; no problem with that, the main thing is that there is something light to listen to at any time of the day instead of the repetitive playlist of daytime Radio 2.

I was worried this station might not re-appear. I'd looked at their site just yesterday, thinking about asking for a British dance bands programme (following the loss of the music on Malcolm Laycock's R2 show).

But it IS back with a second series of test transmissions! from tomorrow!
There is so much music there that I've grown to enjoy during the last thirty years.

Good to see Brian Kay (ex R3) there again, and Pete Murray, Paul Hollingdale and Nick Bailey!
