GMG Radio have introduced two new networked shows to weekends on Smooth Radio.
Fiona Phillips’ Sunday afternoon show on Smooth Radio in London is now set to be broadcast on all six Smooth Radio stations from Sunday 22nd June. Andy Peebles is set to host a new Saturday night soul music show, The Soul Train.
Peebles will continue to present his weekday evening show on 100.4 Smooth Radio in the north west of England. His new Saturday show, which will provide a showcase for new and classic soul music, will broadcast across the six station network from 6-9pm.
GMG Radio group programme director John Simons said: “We are delighted to be bringing two fantastic broadcasters to more of the UK. In just a few months Fiona has demonstrated she has a real affinity with the Smooth Radio audience and I’m sure she’ll replicate this across the country.
“There are few radio presenters in Britain who know more about soul music than Andy and his passion for the genre still shines through."

Hardly 'new' - at least in terms of the title - wasn't that what he called his old R1 programme from years ago? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Sums up "Smooth Radio" (aka "Sickly Radio") really, doesn't it? A complete rehash of worn-out formats. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

Fiona Phillips - oh God no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Andy Peebles is ok - the BBC only got rid him for PC reasons. They didnt believe a white DJ should be doing a soul show at that stage, so they axed him. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

How do you know it's a worn out format? It hadn't been aired when you wrote your comment. Listeners enjoy soul music, and maybe new fresh listeners who haven't heard him will? Don't jump to conclusions as you don't like it |

I'm talking in more general terms about the Smooth FM (aka "Lift Music FM") being a worn-out radio format, really. And, in my opinion, it's just awful. It represents everything I really hate about branded and soul-less commercial radio today - dire. It all comes out of some sausage machine and sounds like it - just like so-called local commercial radio. Same format, same music, same jingles, same playout server - different "local" voices. Dreadful. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

I hope the producer chose Elvis Costello's original of Shipbuilding to play on her show as she miscredited it to Billy Bragg the week he was on GMTV (regarding the shipwreck in Devon)!
