Lets support Sir Cliff Richard who is bidding to be Number One in the Charts when he releases his song next month. It's to mark his 50th Anniversary of his first hit.

You would think, given that news release, that there'd be at least a sample of the new song available, at least on his website, but no, that plays selections from his old albums.

The single is going to be available "over the counter exclusively at Woolworths and as a download". Does he know how many singles Woolies sell these days? Two, or is it three?

If I were a betting man I'd lay odds that he'd have more chance making No 1 by reissuing Move It - perhaps do an Elvis and get some wizzo producer to remix it a la Little Less Conversation.

I like Cliff but whatever it sounds like I just hope it doesn't include that exaggerated vibrato or sickly arm waving... Rolling Eyes yes, lets have an updated Move It!

As Woolworths announced a while ago that all stores would stop stocking singles from August that seems a pretty pointless exercise!

If it's a good track , and I like, I'll buy it. If it isn't or I don't, I won't.

Cashing in on being in a business for 50 years isn't something I'd subscribe to, for that alone.

Our Woolies here doesn't have a music department anymore - just sellotape and sweets now....and I'd never download music - I like to have something to hold on to. A CD, a tape, or a record - I'm just old fashioned I guess.

That goes for me too Rachel. I still can't imagine how anyone could get nostalgic in years to come about that first download in the same way as you can about buying your first vinyl single & album, or, for later generations, even your first CD, with your own cash.

Mark

Can you look up the meaning of the word debut before using it out of context again?

I think Sir Cliff made his debut about 50 years ago, didn't he? Very Happy

Where to start?

"chart debut"? - that was in 1958.

"Exclusively in Woolworths"? Oh please!! what was once a useful emporium is now completely pointless - they never sell anything you want and what they do have is tat.

"Let's support Cliff Richard..." - Why?

Edit - Just noticed OP was back in August - boy are we quick reacting!!

They won't be around after Christmas (or if they are, there won't be nearly as many)
