It's just a pity that Allinson and many other hosts <choose your fav> are replaced or over-looked by BBC management, so that they can employ the latest media darling - the new 'Broacasting genius of their generation' - who is usually someone who has never worked within radio broadcasting before and therefore, relies heavily on production staff to get them through - and my god doesn't it show?

Natasha, congratulations: that's probably the best criticism of the current hiring policy at R2 I've heard yet.... and there's always commercial radio for those who want a more 'OTT' style.

Natasha, please please go and post that thread on the Radio 2 'Flipside' board. The thread is 'Where have all the DJs gone'. I was sorely tempted to cut and paste it for you, but thought it was a bit cheeky to do that! You sum up the problems with Radio 2 succinctly.

How about for starters the fact that he

1) resorts to cliches "at the drop of a hat",
2) reads endless bits of trivia straight from the papers,
3) talks about himself in the plural when he is referring to himself alone,
4) relies on reading out text messages from listeners without developing the topic during the show.

Now before Mark et al attack me, I reckonise that some people like this kind of thing. You are welcome to it.

Why do you listen then Ernie.

If you detest Richard and his style so much why not tune out/go and do somethig else.

It defies logic to continue to listen to something you don't like.

Detest is a very strong word and not one I have ever used about him. I just don't think he is anything special, so its more apathy or ambivalence that would constitute my main feelings about him (although I dont really think about him that much TBH). I only hear bit & pieces of his output. I dont go out of my way to avoid him either though.

He is no worse than Pete Mitchell, Tim Smith or many of the other fill in's.

I think you are getting your hopes up too high if you think he is going to get a regular slot on Radio 2 again anytime soon.

So that would make all these repetitive posts about Allinson spam then wouldn't it? If you say so.

I didnt realise it was a competition. I think you will find that Allinson does not approve of people dissing Sir Tel.

If I wanted to I could post loads of stuff about Terry but that would be both tedious and pointless for everyone.

I didn't realise the number of posts was a measure of how popular someone was, I would have thought Terry's 8 million (ish) listeners tell their own story.

About time this was bumped to the top again.

Richard Allinson-the finest DJ/presenter on radio-sadly not on BBC Radio 2 currently.

Ernie-I think you might have your tongue firmly in your cheek regarding your post here.

Still if not would advise

Richard is still presenting his weekday show on BFBS Radio 2 9-11am each weekday morning.

On Saturdays at 12 o'clock until 2am Richard presents Allinsons Albums on BBC Radio Oxford-this show is repeated on Radio Oxford on Sunday afternoons-5-7pm. In addition this show also goes out on BBC North Yorkshire on a Saturday between 1-3pm.

Richard is still making programmes for the Record Producers series which can be heard on BBC Radio 2 most Bank Holiday Mondays- one of the shows goes out on 27-8-07 at 7pm-not to be missed.

Finally, Richard is still providing cover for some of the presenters on Radio 2 when they are away/ill etc.

Good to see you are still showing some interest.

Blimey..it's just like the old days on R2. Hello chaps.

Tarrant is on Smooth on Saturday mornings, if anyone is fed up with Wossy. Neither to my tastes, but there y'go.

RA....he's okay.

Guy Garvey's your man, though. 10 till 12 on Sundays, 6 Music, followed by Theme Time Radio Hour.

Mind you..I like David Jacobs as well....... Embarassed

With Rich making more appearances on Radio 2 just recently interesting to see his popularity is increasing as per postings on other radio websites/message boards.

RA seems to have enough regular work on stations where he is obviously liked so what would be the point of a regular slot on R2?

He's great at being a stand in because whenever you think your regular presenter has got a bit complacent, along comes to RA to remind you that however bad your regular presenter got he would never be as bad as old Dickie.

Commercial radio stations are crying out for wannabe celebrities who talk with a permanent grin, laugh at their own jokes and patronise the callers so they can have RA with my blessing. I'll stick to my R2 where my presenters have their own unique personalities, voices and presenting styles. I think Evans is cr@p for instance but there's no denying he's different.

Mark,

In the wee hours Richard's live audience is only ever going to be in the 10s of thousands so surely his 'popularity' will only increase if thousands more people listen to Richard on i-player.

Maybe R2 could run trailers to encourage i-player listening?

I recently saw a TV advert by Valerie Singleton reminding us all about the iplayer feature that the BBC has.

I believe I am correct in saying that I have heard Richard himself telling us all about this feature in relation to radio programmes recently.

With regard to Richard's new shows he certainly seems to have lots of folk e-mailing him/texting/calling him-he is certainly encouraging folk to contact him during his shows

Indeed he is running a feature called the 3.46 club-in short you can join the club if you are up and about at that time/ tell him what you are doing etc.

It's a pity that Bob "Am I really the Controller?" Shennan doesn't have the sense to give Richard a regular gig in a sensible slot.
