Some say the best from Kenny Everett was broadcast before he came to Radio 2, particularly on London's Capital Radio.
You can "Listen Again" to some of Kenny Everett's madcap Capital Radio performances here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/saturday/
Scroll halfway down the page to "Kenny Everett's Radio Days".
Is there anyone on the radio now as inventive and crazy as this? The way he used music and jingles then was pretty much ingenious. |

Was he ever on Radio 2?
I don't think there's anybody to touch him on the air nowadays.. the closest maybe was Adrian Juste? in my book anyway. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Yes, Kenny certainly was on Radio 2.
Our own Timeline page http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_timeline.htm
lists:
1967 - Midday Spin 12 - 1.00pm featured different DJ's during the week, including Kenny Everett, Simon Dee, Duncan Johnson and Stuart Henry. In December Tony Brandon replaced Duncan Johnson.
- but I don't know how often Kenny was featured or if the show went on beyond 1967.
1982 - Kenny Everett presents a Saturday morning show on R2. Final show 19/11/83
Here's a Kenny jingle http://www.r2ok.co.uk/r2everett.wav
- that show may have began in 1981
Kenny gets all the credit for his audio/jingle tricks, maye he had all the ideas but surely his producers were doing a lot of the good work??

Thanks also to Brian Matthew and Phil Swern for playing the song 'Nice Time' on SOTS!
There is a website with recordings of the World's Worst Record Shows he did for Capital, including the ad breaks! _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

I think Kenny Everett's best time was on the pirate BigL (radio London). His shows with Dave Cash ("Kenny & Cash") were really, really innovative and blew the fusty old BBC right out of the water.
I thought he certainly was original On Capital Radio - but not all the time. There are times when his Captain Kremmin feature was utter rubbish, and Mike Smith has a few stories to tell about how the other staff were a bit annoyed about the fact that he could get away with rubbish when they couldn't.
Of course, he was enlisted by Radio One to set the new station up with Tony Blackburn in the Summer of 1967 and his early shows for the station were pretty good (largely because they were close to the bone half the time). |
