Presenter Fiona Phillips quits GMTV- Press Association

TV presenter Fiona Phillips is leaving GMTV after 12 years to devote more time to her children and her elderly father, her agent has confirmed.

The 47-year-old will leave the programme at the end of this year.

In a statement released by GMTV she said it had been "the hardest decision I have ever made".

"I love the job but I've got other responsibilities - the children, a home life and an elderly dad who needs me - and I've recognised that I can't have it all," she said.

Very commendable and understandable.

She can hardly need the money, of course, although appearing on tv seems to be very addictive. Myleene Klass announced, after the birth of her daughter, that she was determined to spend less time on television, to look after her family, and she seems to be all over the place like a rash (quite a nice looking rash, though). So we shall see if Fiona is true to her word and can keep away.

This is terible news. How will we cope? Rolling Eyes

Mark, I think there are more worthy news stories if you insist on bringing the newspapers to us!!

Speaking as someone who only ever sees Breakfast tv when in hotels, I can honestly say I wouldn't recognise any GMTV people if they stood next to me!!

It will allow her to spend more time on the radio.

She could be a stand-in for Jeremy Vine Wink

Do people log in just to check that nobody has posted anything?

Is the internet running out of space or something?

If you aren't interested in what Mark has posted why cant you just ignore. You dont have to respond if you dont want to you know. Think of it as your contribution to keeping the board post free Wink

Thanks Wink If know one posted anything then it would be blank, and not worthy keeping this board running? Just think a handful of posters just come on here to slag me off, and not really interested!!! It just goes over my head, and I laugh at it.

Keep posting guys Laughing

I wasn't slagging off Mark! Its just that 99.999% of the posts he makes are copy & paste jobs from Ceefax, the BBC website and other entertainment websites. If it was even a case of posting a summary of the story and adding his own views fair enough but the majority he posts the original story and then leaves the thread completely, not even responding to any replies it might get!

Yes but Fiona Phillips in on Smooth radio, a station quite a few of us listen to from time to time. Don't completely discount Phillips popping up on Radio 2 in the future either. She ticks all the right boxes for Dame Lesley! Wink

There is nothing really for me to debate about. Just to say "it's sad to see her leave after all this time?

I think posting things about this will make other posters comment and debate . Some may not know she is leaving, or even on Smooth Radio as well.

I posted a remark about Fiona maybe asked to host a show on Radio 2 which was really just a funny remark!! I know some posters do tend to say the next stop will be Radio 2, as it's a national station and can sometimes provide these celebs to host one off shows if they fit into the format?

Please let us post what we want in the guidelines of the MB, as it's an open debate for all to discuss or leave. Wink

The One Shows Christine Bleakley has been lined up for Fiona replacement. I feel sorry for Kate Garraway who could be pushed aside.

Thinking along the lines what most broadcasters think the show will need a face which is well known, and a bit of a celebrity, and made his or her name for themselves? Someone who hasn't got any journalism back ground like Fiona, John Stapleton or Penny Smith.

The show is going to turn into a circus like some of the BIG BREAKFAST radio shows are with Email and Texting all through.

Lets face facts if you want to get the viewers then the show would employ Chris Evans and Liz Kershaw on the sofa of GMTV, but they want a glamor model. It's all wrong...
