I'm angry that either of the big national TV Networks likes of the BBC and ITV refused to pay the ransom to show International Football highlights

There are millions in this country who cannot afford to pay the likes of Sky and Setanta to watch programmes.

The Government should step in and insist that the likes of the cricket, tennis, golf and football authorities keep viewing rights within the reach of British-owned TV companies especially when we are paying for a Licence fee.

The Boss of Setanta said it will be sorted soon, but the games are gone for this month.

Why should they pay a "ransom"? In the case of ITV especially, why would they pay more than what they are commercially worth to the station?

It seems like Setanta paid over the odds given that they have only 1m subscribers paying £10 per month or thereabouts. So £5m for 1 match, seems disproportionate.

It's the FA who've ballsed up here - they should have sold the rights to a bigger broadcaster, not just gone for the big money. If the team was any good they could just about justify it, but as long as the players aren't bothered the fans aren't going to be much bothered either.

The English FA dont sell the rights to away matches [never have & never will] so it is absolutely nothing to do with them. The Croatian FA sold the rights to tonights game. Home games have an agreed free to air highlight broadcaster.

Why would the Croatian FA care if England viewers dont get free to air highlights?

Setanta has secured deals to air an unencrypted highlights show tonight across Freeview's digital terrestrial TV service, Virgin Media's cable network and BSkyB's digital satellite offering, that will run from 10.45pm to 12.30pm.

Setanta will air highlights of Scotland's World Cup qualifier first, followed by England's match.

Whoopsie. You're right, of course. I'm just annoyed the pub will be full of brainless England fans!

3-0 to England so far, so this might generate some interest in future matches.

Setanta caved in and sold highlights to ITV for tonight after News At Ten.

I don't know who Setanta's commentators were, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Mike Ingham and Alan Greene with occasional interuptions from the "turnip"

I caught the ITV transmission of the England - Kazakstan. I wonder who had the sense of irony to use "bittersweet symphony"by the verve as their new signature tune.
