Just heard Johnnie Walker say that Ken Bruce is not too well and that Richard Allinson is deputising for him. Our Mark Mayhew should be happy!!

Sounds to me like you should be tuned into some other radio station. For me, Mark Allinson sounds like a nice guy, but frankly he comes second in the "fudge loving-hot-tubbing,sky-diving,shouty-shouty, me-me-me" stakes when it comes to turnoff/turndown activity. The rest... I can live with. (Except obviously Russell Brand).

Clearly then you would have a problem big time if Brand deputised for Bruce re the mid morning show.
Personally I think it would be very amusing.
Re fudge no idea what you are talking about-Richard's presentation style is completely the opposite to the "me me me" style.
Radio 2 daytime schedules at not where its at currently at-try Virgin/Adsolute/Magic /Smooth-real DJ's/presenters and real music. |

Mark,
That is actually a very unfair appraisal of Ken and I can't really understand why you need to be so insulting. I take it you have never actually met Ken so your opinion is based purely on his radio persona. Having had the pleasure of meeting KB he is a good conversationist, a good listener and very humble and sincere, so exactly the opposite of your perception.
I'll reserve my more critical judgement of RA save to say that the reason why he hasn't got a regular gig at R2 is that you can find those cheesy jocks who laugh at their own jokes, play their own favourite tracks over and over (Santana, Dido, Steely Dan) and have the sort of Blackburn/Reid-esque voice that sounds like it's going to break into a laugh at any moment on any ILR in the country. So he is not Radio 2 material.
Love em or loathe em the regular R2 presenters all have their own distinct personalities which makes them unique and inimitable. When I turn on the radio and find RA sitting in I honestly think I've tuned into Fox FM or Mix 96 by mistake.

Have got to say the insults were uncalled for. I've also met Ken and he's a really nice guy.
I would guess there are very few people who can say they've never had a day off sick, so he must have been really poorly.

| Mark, I totally agree with everyone on this one. Insulting Ken Bruce is uncalled for and you moan when posters have a laugh etc about Richard Allinson and you go off in a strop for a while. |

I find Mark Mayhew's comments offensive and have registered a complaint. Whatever you think about a presenter, wishing ill health upon them is completely unacceptable.
Hope Ken is back today, he was really missed yesterday.

Mark Mayhew's comments were unacceptable. Such a severe breaking of our rules is classed as Unforgivable Offense - Immediate Discretionary ban
Mark is suspended from posting until after the weekend. His postings will be edited later today (so members can see the reason for suspension).

I don't think Ken gets as much holiday as Terry Wogan or perhaps he just takes longer breaks at fewer periods in a year and so just seems like less. I can't agree with the post about Richard Allinson being a shouter either. You get the real 'shouty,shouty - me,me,me' types in the afternoon. As for Brand (another shouter) Well, the less said the better. I disagree with Mark M about all he said on this thread except Richard Allinson. I think he should still have a regular show on R2.
It's just been announced. Ken Bruce is back today

I'd disagree, but what does it matter, you can fall ill on holiday just as easily as you can while working.

| As for Ken Bruce he takes his Holidays when Schools are out to spend time with his Family. Sarah, Terry, Steve and Chris may take Holidays when there isn't kids away and find it easy to do that? I would expect some of Terry's Holidays are for TV work? |

Aww, I like Ken, he seems like a really lovely person and I think it's a shame that people feel the need to be so nasty about him and Terry, Sarah, etc.
I can understand that they are not everyone's cup of tea but smug and arrogant are not words that apply to Ken Bruce.
Glad he is better anway. |

Ken Bruce..smug and arrogant..? Says more about the person who said it, I think. Maybe the Scots accent frightens him.
He cheers me up on the dullest of days. No mean feat when you're broadcasting 2 and a half hours every weekday. And all without shouting...take note Chris Evans.

| The way he chatted to today's contestants and then played that odd Chris De Burgh song was great. I wish he did more of that stuff, his knowledge is wide-ranging and great. |
