I consider myself fairly broad minded but when tuning into R2 last night awaiting the start of the Bob Harris show myself and however many other listeners to the Russell Brand Show were treated to 15 minutes of
humourless chat devoted to orgies and what went on and Mr Brand
concluded the programme with some comments about 'facials' and he
made it perfectly clear that he was not talking about what our lady friends go to the beauty parlour for. Why does Ms Douglas allow this filth to be
broadcast ? I thought bthe BBC Trustees were tasked to ensure that
BBC output reached a certain level of decency ? No doubt the R2
management would argue that they have to sink to such levels to attract a younger audience. Well the young people of my acquintance would
be less than impressed- not so much an entertainment as the ramblings of a sad old p*****t. I feel sorry for Bob Harris - watching his audience drift away in the face of such rubbish.

Sadly this seems to be our Lesley's way. Have a look at the furore on the 6 music boards over the displacement of a real DJ, Gideon Coe and the parachuting into his mid morning spot of George Lamb (another Big Brother 'gobshyte') Here's something I'd like to come true, but in the hope that someone much better takes her place who would recruit proper DJs rather than 'comedians'/ Big Brother 'celebs' pretending to be DJs. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/sep/07/mediabusiness If you feel stressed out, this might help!! http://www.pictogame.com/en/play/game/zafHoNB9bL0j_kick-boy

Yes it's time Brand's appalling show was axed. No decent listeners actually listen to Brand so complaints will be very few, unless Bob's fans do so.

That Observer link says: "Douglas's move would create a vacancy for one of the most powerful jobs in radio. "

So, what 'power' does the R2 job have? Surely, in the UK entertainment world, the only person with real power is Simon Cowell? Rolling Eyes

Hello John,
Lesley Douglas is also in charge of 6 music. The impression I get from reading the 6 music message boards is that plenty of 6 music listeners would also like to see the back of her. It was on the 6 music boards that I came across that Guardian artical. If she does move on, I just hope she takes messrs Evans, Brand, Lamb and that plethora of 'Comedians' pretending to be DJs (a phenomenon most noticeable on 6 music) with her. She can leave Mark Radcliffe, Pete Mitchell, Marc Riley & Nemone if she likes, provided she takes Steve Wright & Jonathan Ross!!

Mrs G went to bed before me on Saturday and was unfortunate to catch this apology for a radio show. It's a pity that the old R2 boards are now toothless, Would a message on POV do any good?

It would be worth a try. I'd write to Feedback if it's on the air at the moment.

I was interested to review tonight's papers reviews of his performance at last nights MTV awards.

The headline of the London Evening standard is "Outrage as Brand dubs Bush retard cowboy".

His career will nosedive now-hopefully the BBC will bullet him soon.

I was thinking this today hearing Russell on Radio 2 regarding the MTV awards. Steve Wright was defending him on Mondays show which is fair enough, but I don't think he's everyones cup of tea.

I think he won't renew his contract with Radio 2 as he's really trying to break into the US, and how much longer can the BBC pay for his show to be recorded from somewhere else?

There again we have all complained about him on all MB including the POV boards in the past and know one has done anything. There is no Watershed when Brand is on.

This is why under the leadership at present Wogan etc will not move, but may have too if she is replaced?

I thought he was talking about Reagan? they referred to "ex Presidents" on this morning's news...
No matter... he was an embarrassment to the Brits.
But then again, isn't this sick and rude humour what TV has developed here in the UK recently?
I watched "Mock the Week" the other night.... say no more.

How can anyone possibly argue about his comments on George Bush?

He's an attention seeker, not unlike Spike Milligan, mostly boring (and booring), then shouting the odd insult or obscenity to wake everybody up. At least Milligna was able to write the odd funny script for The Goons.

I think one thing which is ignoring about Russell, being on Radio 2. His job is a stand-up TV comedian and not really suited for Radio, especially a grown up station like Two? I think thats a fair point if people are willing to pay to see his humor unfold, or watch him on TV?

I do think the space could be filled with a music show for a Saturday night, whether it's a mix of 60's,70's or 80's songs which we don't hear much of on the radio. Or any ideas which members have? Mark Lamar would be nice on a Saturday evening too.

lesley Douglas is an idiot
Ratings for Russell Brands' show are too low to measure. Yet she keeps him on & lets his show go out completely unregulated

I thought his podcasts are getting in the top 10? It doesn't mean I enjoy his Radio show, actually I don't listen to it. When I did I found it appalling

His podcast is a massive success, and that's why Douglas is desperate to keep him. Quite why they need a rubbish 2-hour show on the main network so they can make a 30-minute podcast for 400,000 people I'm not entirely sure...

I think thats a little harsh. She has done some good stuff. OK!! She can't please everyone. I think I would say it's a mistake for Russell Brand too be on Radio 2? I think commercial radio should have networked the show?

Likewise on her other charge, 6 music. I think a substantial proportion of that audience would like to see her head roll.

Surely the Podcast ratings/subscriptions is hardly a reliable source anyway, but still something that Brand bangs on about every show. Yes, a lot of people have subscribed to it (i.e. signed up once), but it doesn't necessarily mean that they all listen to it every week? It might get downloaded automatically to someone's computer, but still doesn't mean it's listened to.

In any event, the 2 hour slot could be better used on a Saturday night - like someone else said, a specialist music show, or anything presented by Mark Lamarr!!

At the moment, Lesley Douglas seems incapable of pleasing ANYONE. A re-hash of 6 music followed by no action over Brand leaves me wondering what she is doing!
