Can anyone tell me who the girl with long dark hair is on this trailer?

I believe it's Claudia Winkleman (sp?).

It's not exactly what you'd find most of the time on Radio 2 is it? I wrote on the webpage something similar, and guess what it hasn't appeared on the page as yet anyway. Rolling Eyes

I suppose they are only publishing favourable comments!

A total waste of time and money IMHO!

I quite like the advert -( they are the best bits on telly... well apart from Al Murray). I didn't know all the folks in it but it was interesting- I first saw it at about 2 mins to 7 on Wednesday evening( or at least I think I did- I may have dreamed it)- I was well confused cos Chris was just fisnishing up drivetime - I put the telly on for channel 4 news and there he was on the telly in the studio- It was like ... woah what's occuring here then? I thought maybe that particle accelerator thing had jumbled things up.

The studios look really untidy and discombobulated though..... sort it out Guv...

The ad is quite brilliant - and probably cost a bob or two - but has little relevance to the bit of Radio 2 that broadcasts during the day, or most of the evening, come to that.

Who used to use "discombobulated"?

Yeah it would have been nice Ron, to see some of the presenters we know and love...maybe they were thinking too much of a good thing can sometimes be bad. Just imagine if Alex had been in the ad.... there'd be women from all over the country abandoning their homes and children in favour of a Greenpeace style camp in Portland Street- all just to get a look at the love legend on his way home from work- it would be chaos out there.

Hmmm thinks ... discombobulated? maybe Sk but I'm not sure. Interestingly there is no "combobulated" so once you become discombobulated- you're stuck there! Smile

The station doesn't need to keep promoting Wogan, Bruce, Vine & Wrighty shows as they are in well established No 1 slots.

The trailer played out on the station airs Wogans, Bruce and Wrighty Voices.

I would like to see a Janice Long, Alex Lester, Bob Harris, Pete Mitchell and Sarah Trailer.

Why don't they air trailers for Russell Davies, Desmond Carrington, Paul Jones, Malcolm Laycock? I mean this because no other UK station plays their type of music. Their audiences could double overnight, and audience is what Lesley wants, eh?

But double all those audiemces might be less than a million so I guess not enough for Lesley to rave about.

I suppose everyone in UK who is into swing, Broadway, jazz and blues do KNOW about the R2 shows so the trailers would achieve nothing; that's probably what Lesley thinks too.

I supposed she's realised the "proper" audience for Radio 2 have switched off so thought she'd better go for a different age group. The woman has no sense at all. Evil or Very Mad

I agree.

Lesley Douglas is not in touch with "all her presenters". Blinkered vision imho.

I was gobsmacked by that trailer - if Dame Lesley wants to put people off R2 she's going the right way about it!!

It contained all the people I loathe on Radio 2. All the people she should be getting rid of, not wasting money promoting.

It’s just an advert. Adverts are like that. Take any commercial/retail organisation’s advert and it will have many similar facets. There’s always something familiar – instantly recognisable- so you know whose advert it is… in this case they use Chris Evans – everybody knows him – he’s familiar, warm and trustworthy – so immediately you think, ah – I know what this is about – it’s about Radio 1! Then they introduce the products that aren’t really selling that well…Russell Brand .. ad a touch of eye candy for the boys- Claudia Winkleman.. throw in a throbbing hunk for the girls- Dermot O’leary …. You know what they say? Sex sells: plug that product that just won’t move off the shelf again, Russell Brand, oh and again, Russell Brand, give it a bit of Wossy, who wouldn’t want that? Mix the whole lot with a fab score, and Bob’s your uncle…

I think Rachel has a point, mix up a couple of well knowns , Ross & Evans, with the newish ones no-one can be bothered with,

...and add a bit of music and make it sound 'cool' for the younger audience.

I've no idea, they don't seem to be heading that way with R2, all things on R2 seem to be heading for the younger audience..it would be good to cater for some older listeners and leave R1 to the younger listeners. Smile

I can't see why they can't have a playlist of old records, in particular old albums, then they could play some tracks that are seldom played. Lets face it they can't be any worse than some of the new stuff that gets aired so many times a day!

They could call it the D list and reduce the number of plays of the A list.

They do have a playlist of older records, but just don't make public. It seems to include Brown-Eyed Girl, Born to Run, Doctor My Eyes, Maggie May, Year of the Cat, and Desperado.

When you think of the wealth of fabulous tracks that are never heard on R2, it makes you weep. I had to cringe when Dear Ken played WOTW again yesterday, that one really needs a rest.

At least 2 of the 6 'old' songs I listed above have been played today (and I've only listened to Ken and Jeremy). Chances of Van the Man turning up on Steve Wright are high, I reckon.

With advertising, you want to attract people to a product who have not used it before. Since everybody in the country knows about Wogan, Kennedy & Bruce I cant see why they would be included. Also everybody knows about the middle of the road daytime music & presentation. So its the unknown bits that need to be promoted.

Although really I think it just shows that the BBC still has too much cash as it seems to make a new ad every few months.
