I think they can be invaluable. They can help you catch up with tracks you missed out on the first time round. Most recent 'Greatest Hits' I bought was by The Association, mainly for the track 'Along Comes Mary' which I've heard Johnnie Walker play a few times, I think it's also been on SOT 60s. Some previous 'Greatest hits' I've bought are: ELO (Light Years) Tom Petty (Anthology) Neil Young (Decade) Yes and Moody Blues. One down side of compilations are that you can get the same track more than once, particularly with the 'various artist' compilations, e.g. I have Joe Brown's 'A Picture Of You' on two Heartbeat compilations. On the Led Zeppelin at the BBC compilation, there are at least three takes of 'Communication Breakdown'! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I have a few compilations, mostly by 60s artistes, like the Searchers, the Hollies, the Kinks, the Fourmost, the Dave Clark Five and the Merseybeats. Some year-specific ones have also made it to my collection.
I also collect classical compilations, including, inter alia, quite a number of Classic FM ones.
Yes, there is quite a bit of duplication as a result. At the last count I had at least 5 versions of Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.
