Some could say this is crazy, but shops start to sell Christmas Cards etc in advance. It's a big business, so radio have got in on the act.
Radio 1 & 2 do tend to keep them to the last minute. I think they should play them for a few weeks before? The younger listeners may like them.

Actually I think they have it about right, there are plenty of other ways to hear Christmas music if you are that desperate.
At the end of the day Radio 2 is not 'supposed' to be for children, even if it sounds that way at times.
