There is room to for the likes of Jonathan Ross, Chris Evans and Russell Brand.

Radio Two is a broad church and long may it stay that way

I have been surprised by the level of support that Lesley Douglas has received from the presenters on Radio 2 e.g. STW, Jeremy Vine and Stuart Maconie. She is obviously a good boss even if she made some dreadful decisions by employing the likes of Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross and Chris Evans.

Just one point to correct here. It was Jim Moir who signed up Jonathan Ross. I too can't forgive Lesley for what she did to my radio station of choice and 6 music which was her other charge. Maybe it's time these two stations each had their own controllers, rather than one person in charge of both stations. I also wonder about so many presenters on both Radio 2 & 6 music being sourced from one agency - John Noel Management.

I have managed to reserve my opinions on this whole farce until the final decision was made.

As will have been pointed out elsewhere the original broadcast raised two complaints which, due to the intervention initially of the Daily Mail and consequently of the rest of the media rose to over 30,000. This has been a witch hunt from the start by the Daily Mail who are envious of the salaries these guys earn and the popularity they receive

I don't think Jonathan Ross could have dreamt up a stunt like this own, but unfortunately he seems to be easily led by people such as Russell.

I think the prank was stupid and malicious and Russell did the right thing in resigning as well as apologising. We will have to wait and see if Ross is as well received by the public after his suspension is served.
As for Lesley? Well as much as I dislike her for what she has done to Radio 2 I don't think she should have resigned but she has paid the ultimate price for hiring Brand and all the other celebrity clowns in the first place.
And she has finally got what has been coming to her ever since she hired Chris Evans, so for that reason I'm not sorry to see her go.

I hope that LD's successor realises that the core demographic of Radio 2 are people in their late 30's and beyond. We absolutely do not want "Yoof" on our station. We want a wide and varied range of music and shows hosted by "safe" presenters who we feel comfortable with and know exactly where to draw the line.

I feel very sure that LD was popular amongst her staff, unfortunately she was not popular with the listeners who, like me, feel that our beloved Radio 2 has all but been destroyed since she came along. I can only hope that Chris Evans decides to follow her seeing as he was so upset about her leaving.

I think Gambo's comments about "Personalities" are very valid here he made the point very clearly that neither Brand or Ross were able to work the controls hence the reason they were standing up.

We need good quality Radio Broadcasters and agree with the comment that there are plenty of good young presenters around.

Ross's TV show is a different matter and I have to say I think he is pretty good at that. But endorse Briant's point what people want on a Sat morning is totally different to what they might watch late on TV on a Sat night. Interesting also that Gambo made the point that Brian Matthew had the biggest listening figures on R2 8-10am on a Saturday morning and after that 1/3 million listeners stopped listening.

I agree. I found Ross' saturday R2 show indigestible, but i did evening his TV show on the ocasions I saw it
But I don't think i could stomach watching him after this
