I could imagine Brand getting the push but not Ross, his feet are firmly under the BBC table and a big Sowwy from him would push the right buttons on the top floor.

Surely, you don't think he knows already that he's won a gold in next year's awards? Wink

Yes, he's already turned up in person at Andrew Sach's house to deliver the apology. However, it seems he's the worst to blame! A little too keen to impress the cool kid.

George Lamb on 6 music goes on causing controversy since his promotion to the morning slot, and he gets rewarded with Sony Gold. Ok I might be a bit presumptuous in thinking so, but I wouldn't put it past the judging panel again and again! I guess the question is will we still be talking about this in a year's time? I wonder what far-reaching consequences there will be?

According to what I read in The Times today, Brand's "apology" ended with the phrase "....but it was still funny, though." He can't even muster up enough common decency to say sorry for his mistake without trying to make light of the situation. His feet shouldn't even touch the floor on the way out of the building. Same goes for Jonathan Ross, who should have known better, and to whichever wonk(s) green-lighted the programme in the first place.

I feel like boycotting R2 completely until both RB and JR are removed from their present duties and replaced by broadcasters who are worthy of the title.

Agree, Chersk. It sounded like JR started the swearing - what is it with this guy - thinks he can swear on tv and think it's fuuny too. AMybe he's trying to plug his book "Why do isay these things.."

What the hell is so special about Brand too - has anyone listened to this trivial, childish moron - grow up for goodness sake. Good comedy is a world away from purile, childish sniggering and swearing!

Rant over.

To be fair, he'd apparently already done a serious apology on Chris Moyle's Radio 1 show last week (before the story broke and anyone 'made' him do it). Although his response on Saturday was very churlish.

The Grand daughter is calling for them both to be sacked. I think a suspension on this weekends Radio Shows until the investigation is over would send out a better impression the corporation is taking it serious?

Agreed. If enough people did the same the BBC might get off their arrogant high-horse and actually do something about these 2 *********.
I've been feeling for a long time that the Licence Fee is being squandered, this only compounds that thought.
Why in God's name is Brand being allowed to continue? Evil or Very Mad

They've both been suspended as announced on JV's chat on Stuart Maconie at 11.30.

Good! although Ross is still getting his £16,000 a day for it! Evil or Very Mad what a joke.
I've added my complaint to the increasing list at the BBC.

In the old days – when honour and integrity were common place, this sort of thing wouldn’t require a suspension, because those who had offended others, would “immediately” withdraw their remarks, apologise and resign. That would be an end to the matter. No discussion, no suspensions pending investigation, no internal inquiries, no need for new regulation.

Lesley Douglas should resign too. She took a gamble on this type of presenter on Radio2 and it's backfired. Didn't she say they were the future of Radio 2? ( unless they're suspended of course... Laughing )

Georgina Baillie has called for these two to be given their jobs back. I would expect she means Brand as Ross is suspended?

I missed by 2 minutes the broadcast apology which was to be heard at 10:03am:

"On October 18, the BBC broadcast an exchange between Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross on The Russell Brand Show on Radio 2.

"This concerned the actor Andrew Sachs and his granddaughter, Georgina Baillie. Some of this exchange was left on the voicemail of Mr Sachs.

"The conversation was grossly offensive and an unacceptable intrusion into the private lives of both Mr Sachs and Ms Baillie. It was a serious breach of editorial standards, and should never have been recorded or broadcast.

"The BBC would like to apologise unreservedly to Mr Sachs, Ms Baillie and to our audiences as licence fee payers."

The apology was slightly undermined by the next song being "Hungry Heart" by Bruce Springsteen - Lesley Douglas's favourite song and artist. It was like the station is still supporting her.

Yep, I must admit, I did look at the radio from my bed saying "you can't play that..." but hey, it shows a sense of solidarity to Lesley. If Brand can sincerely apologise with a picture of Stalin behind him then why can't Radio 2 get away with Bruce Springsteen's spectre Wink Perhaps Richard was just playing it for Obama... ahem.

i just turned on the tranny awaiting the opology after the memorial service

One thing I have noticed, is the number of idiots on BBC trying to be a little bit daring by aluding to certain things, hinting they might swear or make an abusive phone call, but not having the bottle to do it
A fw of the dodos on LBC have been into that, too

PATHETIC!

Imagine Russell Brand following the Festival of Remembrence?

Interesting that the festival over ran by 10 minutes but the newsreader [Andrea Simmons] still starts by saying BBC News at Nine O'Clock. Did she record it, or not have a clock?

They made a total of four phone calls, which in my book is harassment. For that alone, he should have been sacked.

I wondered that ern, as I patiently listened to the over-run of the Remembrance show. I'd missed the morning apology and wanted to record the evening one.

Good one Sachs getting them to amend the apology Exclamation

I've updated the Radio Timeline page at the R2ok website. See foot of the page at

http://www.r2ok.co.uk/R2_timeline.htm

and there's a link to another page which has photos and links to the press stories from beginning to end (?) of the scandal. I'm sure there's more to come on Ross

If anyone's interested to learn more about Ross' agent who is mentioned in that article - I read this interesting piece in the Guardian last week:
