I think this is a good idea. You should keep to the speed limits which are enforced. Also they seemed to be always wanting to catch speedy drivers, and not drunk drivers or drivers on their mobile phones? How are they going to get police in cars chasing these offenders - when they are already overstretched? |

Agreed. I've been caught twice but only for 10+ mph over the limit, so I'd better be more aware in future.

Police want to catch the real speedy drivers because those drivers usually have something ELSE to hide e.g. no insurance, drugs in the boot, jumped bail, wanted for previous offenses etc etc. That's why these drivers are so keen to get away from police cars following them.

Mark. Drivers like myself won't be chased by police, I'll just get caught on camera as before, just 2 strikes out instead of 3.

Most dangerous driving I see whilst out and about around the UK comes not from speeding but from simple bad driving practices:
Overtaking where it's completely impractical or downright unsafe to do so;
Poor lane discipline on motorways and dual carriageways;
Driving *too slowly* for the type of road and weather conditions, causing frustration to following drivers (try driving along the A9 Perth to Inverness);
Using mobile phones, eating and drinking from water bottles;
I could go on.

On both occasions camera caught me was dual carriageway, doing 50 where it was 40, and there is risk of pedestrains crossing.
Actually one was in roadworks and was a temporary reduction, but I should be aware and if there's cones around then I should slow down.
The other was the A45 approaching Birmingham. Much of the A45 is wide dual carriageway but there are residential areas so there are stretches reduced to 40.
Still a while to go before the points are taken away.
