Very sad to learn of the sudden death of this extremely eminent conductor.
Though he was mainly active in the classical music field, he did record some lighter music and his album of pieces by Edward German, Roger Quilter and others is one to treasure for those who like this repertoire.
We saw him at the Gateshead Sage only a few months ago, when he conducted a programme of music by Vaughan Williams, Ravel and George Butterworth.
My sympathy to his family.

Yes Ian, quite a shock, I have a number of his CDs.
He was working very hard, much in demand, a full schedule of perfomances and recordings.
R3 this morning played a very moving romance, Op.11 by Finzi that he conducted.
