|
|
Just been browsing the the TV schedules over the Xmas /New year period.
Not a lot that I would put in the category of "I have got to watch that".
Has anyone noticed anything special in the TV schedules as "good recommendations". |

Wallace and Gromit and Michael Palin's program are the only things that stand out for me. |

Eastenders and Corrie seemed to dominate the schedules. 90 Minutes of Doctor Who should be good. Usual stuff, but the TV companies can say why put so much good stuff on when people are either away or with family and friends. Remember BBC I-Player and catch for Sky and Virgin customers. |

The seasons undoubted higlight was last night when BBC1 played 8 minutes of trailers back to back to cover the early finish of SCD results show which resulted from their inability to understand their own competition rules for deciding which dancing numpty they should evict. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Nope, doesn't do anything for me I'm afraid.
Hate soap operas, not interested in Strictly anymore.
Oh yes whoever mentioned it, Miracle on 34th street has already been on. |

The Christmas Radio Times is now the only one I get, and I riffled through it and highlighted all the programmes I'd quite like to watch, but it won't be the end of the world if I miss any, which is quite likely, given that I'm frequently outvoted, since they are bound to be repeated (some of them are repeats already, like the University Challenge Night (BBC2 Saturday 27th).
In theory, a new Wallace & Gromit on Christmas Day should be good, but bringing out of retirement old favourites (this year, the Royle Family and Blackadder) is usually an embarassing mistake, and as for ITV's feeble contribution of It'll Be Alright On The Night and Stanley Baxter (whose talent and popularity have always been a mystery to me)...
When growing up, television was always banned (except for the Queen's speech) on Christmas Day, we went for a walk before dinner and played silly games after (the cooking and clearing up seemed to be done by magic!). It all seemed to fall apart with the coming of Morecambe and Wise and videos of Disney films, not to mention a subtle change of responsibilites in the kitchen. _________________ Ron |

Ron, the Blackadder show is just a documentary so should be OK to watch. I've heard it's very good. |

I only buy RT at Christmas, it's a tradition really. Not sure why I still do it, given the plethora of tv guides in the papers! Can't really see how RT keeps going, bit of an anachronism, I guess people buy it as a magazine? (Hope I'm not catching the Occomore disease ) _________________ MiS |

We just use the MoS Live Magazine but there's no point in my looking at the programmes on offer- everything that we watch on our telly is chosen for me by hubby, I've not used the TV remote since getting married. Apart from the football ( and I always get prior warning of that because of the bottle of beer on the coffee table) most of the stuff we watch is ok...
(I prefer Radio) |

The only things I've heard of this year I would really want to watch are the new Wallace & Gromit and Doctor Who shows already mentioned.
However, seeing as I no longer watch TV (I'm thinking of getting rid of it altogether) I won't see them live, but might catch them via the Internet. Like my retired supermodel friend says above, I prefer the radio. Will be perusing the R2 and R4 listings to see what's worth tuning into or listening again to over the holidays. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
