Po-faced Minister Tony McNulty has orderd an inquiry into a spoof email about the Twelve Days of Christmas circulating at a Job Centre.

This is the same Minister who ignored local protests and deported a well respected school governor with children back to Pakistan where he has been reportedly repeatedly beaten up. New Labour, eh?

The workplace takes itself much too seriously today.

In my early days in the NHS a spoof set of guidelines for taking sick leave had us all rolling in the aisles. Nowadays the perpetrator would probably be disciplined.

Working in a sales office as a young(er) man we had loads of spoof notes circulated ... How to deal with awkward customers, explaining why orders had not be fulfilled or been delayed etc etc.

The management thought they were funny because we did. They knew that we knew what we were doing and could separate the joke from the reality. It is called trust!

These days we're all frightened to say boo for fear of causing offence. The Government should take a lead and lighten up! Sure, we're in a financial pickle at the moment but we can keep our sense of humour!

Totally agree MiS but for many people who have to hang on to jobs and pay mortgages the will of the boss is so important and I have to correct myself for being a bit flippant...

Having worked in a highly politically minded large organisation I have seen too often the consequences of outspoken actions... and also those of pandering to the whims of those with influence.

It should not be like that but it is the reality.
