It has just been announced that after 10 years Paul Gambaccini has been dropped as host from the annual Sony industry awards ceremony in favour of a "younger" presenter.

59 year old Gambaccini is thought to be gutted at the decision.

Didn't Gambo criticise Ross and Brand and Lesley Douglas? Were the knives out for him? Anyway these Sony awards are a joke in my view!

He certainly does in this artical: http://blogs.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ianwylie/2008/10/russell_brand_the_inside_story.html
I believe you're right about the sony awards too Briant. The aforementioned Lesley was on the judging panel. Much was made about that on the 6 music message boards earlier in the year when the 2008 awards were made and one of her other pets - George Lamb was up for the 'most promising newcomer' (or something very similarly titled) against a few even lesser known people, probably minnows when compared to Lamb, who was the only one on a BBC national station, I'll leave you to guess who won

Wogan and many others have spoken out about the BBC before. Personally I think Paul was right what he said. Ross should have got the chop as well only looking at other resigning around him.

Simon Mayo would be good hosting the show. Or Maybe they will have someone else different who doesn't work at the BBC?

Gambo for Controller! Or if not, how about a new ministerial post: Chancellor of Broadcasting.

Gambo speaks a lot of sense: of course it's absurd that Lesley D lost her job but Ross keeps his.

He's so right about radio requiring a particular skill set, and it's plain that a lot of the tv faces just don't have it.

Moral of the story... Keep your mouth shut about anyone and anything with any influence. Unless of course your self respect means more than crawling up the ladder... Laughing

Gambo's position at Radio 2 is only under threat if the next controller is... Lesley Douglas. Its a shame if she feels that Paul didn't support her but the fact is her judgement in hiring Brand was proved to be horribly wrong.

Brand wasn't her only questionable appointment in my opinion. And no, for once Evans is not foremost in my mind when I say that, even though I am still an Evans 'refusenik'. Just as bad a signing as Brand was is George Lamb on 6 music.
