Someone trying to report a burglary to his local police HQ (the nearest station being closed) found the officers inside playing poker and was told to ring the non-emergency telephone number.

Such is life in Britain today. Similar scenario to more than half the hospitals not having facilities to deal with casualty emergencies even when they happen at their front door.
