Perhaps Radio 2 have realised how poor their comedy output has been lately - they're remaking old Tony Hancock scripts.
4 Galton & Simpson scripts are to be remade later this month, including 2 Hancock Half Hours and the plan is to get them performed by current actors. The writers hope to get Peter Kay and Ricky Gervais but no-one's signed up yet. |

What on Earth for? Why not just play the originals? _________________ MiS |

Good luck to the writers. They'll need it. |

Talking of old comedy, I was listening to an old "Not the nine o'clock news" tape last night.
It's right on the money for what is happening in the world right now.
Middle East Problems , recession and unemployed, public disorder and racism … oh and drink driving…. The beeb should re-run it. |

Not The 9 O'Clock News is running on Paramount 2, but, yes, should be on the main channels again. A great show! |

The BBC does occasionally air the highlights - in effect the content of the two DVDs you'll find in the shops for a fiver each.
I've got the videos, which I dig out now and again for a laugh.
As to the old Tony Hancock scripts, Paul Merton did try to do them on television, and those of us old enough to remember the originals probably think that was a mistake, as will be any new attempt for radio. As far as I recall, the original radio shows are still in good condition, and many of them were recorded separately for record anyway. Much better just to resurrect them. _________________ Ron |

The original Hancocks are on BBC7 on Wednesdays. They recently premiered "The Blood Donor" (which had been made for TV, then recorded for commercial release - not part of the radio series). They're great - Radio 2 should indeed repeat these, and some old I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clues like they used to. |

Galton & Simpson's Half Hour starts this Saturday, and the trailer sounds good.
The confirmed casts include Mitchell & Webb, Rik Mayall, June Whitfield, and Paul Merton with the first one starring Frank Skinner. |

And get slated on here for running repeats instead of encouraging new talent?
I find BBC7 a perfectly suitable outlet for such stuff; one thing I do miss though is the News Huddlines, by far the best topical satire of recent years. |

How true. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't! |

Ha! I mean, if they're going to run more repeats (like they are) I'd rather it was Hancock or ISIHAC than Jeff Green or Miranda Hart. |

Why? I happen to like Frank Skinner. So why it is assumed that I would like him - I don't get it. |
