|
Quote: | Terry Wogan has hinted that he might be ready to leave his breakfast show, Wake Up To Wogan. He told the Daily Mail: "You really have to leave before they shut the door on you.”
The veteran broadcaster admitted that he’d begun to think about his future after turning seventy in August. He’s presented the show since 1993, attracting up to eight million listeners a day.
Speaking at the Oldie of the Year awards in London, Sir Terry said: "This is a very crucial year for me. I mean, I'm 70 years of age. I have to get up at 20 past five every morning. I'm going to have to look around and see, although it's too early to say. I've taken a one-year contract and at the moment with the way things are you can't expect any more than that."
Wogan currently earns £800,000 a year for his Radio 2 show alone and is one of the highest paid presenters at the BBC. |

Errr it's the Daily Mail he spoke too. I would take some of the words with the pinch of salt, but I'm sure he does consider his future as he gets older. Or was that the Mail adding there birthday wishes and when are you going. |

To do the podcast? He wouldn't have to leave home to do that, anyhow. |

I couldn't see the BBC doing a Kenny Everett and paying out money to build a studio at his home. |

You don't need a studio to do podcasts. Just a broom-cupboard, a Mic,a MacBook and Garageband. |

He's come out with this sort of thing loads of times before, if only it were true. |

It's hardly surprising if someone of 70 is thinking of retiring. I've no intentions of still being in employment at that age unless I'm in acute poverty.

I think all the mainstream presenters are being cautious at the moment. The new controller is still getting his feet under the table, and it's usually a good few months before brooms get to be re-organised in the proverbial cupboard when a new boss takes to the chair. The next re-shuffle will be an interesting one, I think.
I wonder if Evans is the golden boy with this controller in the way he was with the previous incumbent? Let's hope not. |
