It's a 10% paycut on £1million-I don't think Dermot is going to be that worried.
Anyway he can fill in for Ken Bruce to make up the shortfall-Bruce tends to take lots of holidays these days. |

It means his agent takes a cut, too, of course. It must have been quite an interesting negotation.

Ken Bruce takes whatever his contract agreement allows. As for O'Leary taking over - no thanks! |

| BBC is funded by us the licence payer, and I'm sure they will have pay cuts or freezes too? With the BBC they are trying to hide those. ITV funding has dropped with advertising partly to do with those business who have folded, or can't afford to advertise that much. Yes in some cases Bosses at Channel 4 are having to take pay cut, as it would be unfair to cut a camera operative and not an executive. |

Of a different nature. The BBC's budgets are approved way before the financial year - and not by prevailing commercial pressures.
ITV Plc, on the other hand, has suffered a year-on-year drop in advertising and sponsorship revenue of 60%, which is a far greater problem, and that's the one that Michael Grade has to contend with as a matter of urgency.

I'd be surprised if C4 actually employs camera operators - it's a "publisher broadcaster" rather than a "producer broadcaster". Those cutbacks are borne by the independent production companies - they either get commissioned/recommissioned or they don't.
Part of the reason for a broad drop in TV advertising revenues is that the agencies aren't engaging in traditional media buying now - they're using web-based and "viral" methods instead.

I can't see that O'Leary would have had much of a choice. Michael Grade would have decided that one, as would have his uncle in the same circumstances. |

And I was just alluding to the fact that Channel 4 doesn't employ many people who are production staff or technical grades. C4 doesn't even do its own transmission any more - it's done by Reb Bee Media which also transmits BBC output.
The point is, therefore, that most of the people at C4 seem to be execs these days! |

Yes, but my comment was in response to Mark's - who implied that O'Leary was being something of a decent chap by taking a cut. It's business, and he knows that he's better in than out, even if it means a £100,000 cut.

You would if your contracts depended on the skill of a good agent to negotiate a deal on your behalf and then keep the business side of things on a good footing, I'm sure! |
