Did anybody else catch this? I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was amazed that she had actually mingled with the likes of Adam Faith and the Beatles. She disappeared off my radar when I was a child, so it came as a surprise to learn that she was still appearing on TV up to her death in the mid sixties at the age of 34. What a professional she was! And those dresses!

Caught the last half hour, very interesting, am hoping for a repeat as BBC4 often do. I wanted to know who all the talking heads were as I missed the first half! Noticed it was made in 2006, so must have been on before.

BBC4 is often the best channel on tv, loads of interesting programmes.

I very much agree with the last statement. There's some excellent stuff on BBC4 and (to a lesser extent) BBC3 as well. I actually missed the programme, but a quick look through the schedule over the next few days will no doubt show several repeats at varying times. I usually set up the DVR to grab a programme at 3.00am or thereabouts!

Yes, it was interesting - the laughing singing voice and all those corny old songs! Like last time I missed the end, so I still don't know (other than looking it up) how her career wound down.
It was a repeat, last seen September 2007, and no further repeat listed yet - watch that space.
They did the Beverley Sisters a fortnight ago and that was good as well - I didn't realise how fruity some of their songs were.

I do recall hearing of her death on the radio & TV news at the time, though I didn't really know who she was. My dad was quite sorry to hear the news though. I think the reason for her demise was that her style wasn't really in keeping with the times. It was the swinging sixties and the Beatles, Stones, etc were at their height, and I got the impression that she was of a previous musical despite her associations with the hip young things of the age.

I didn't realise until more recently just how young she was when she died - to a young bloke of 11 or 12 and mad on all things Beatles she just came across as being so "old"!

Great voice though, as I now appreciate.

One of the guys was some kind of tour manager who was clearly besotted with her. Another one was Andrew Oldham! But I didn't catch the slightly camp northern guy's name.

There was a scene with her singing with Adam Faith... well, she was singing and Adam was doing whatever it was he did to pass as singing, and the presenter said that the Beatles and Faith were regular party-goers at her flat. When the sixties scene took over she performed mostly abroad where she remained quite popular.

I saw this when it was shown in 2006 to mark the 40th anniversary of Miss Cogan's death.

You had to be there from about 1955 to 1961, as I was, to realise just how she brightened up our TV screens in those relatively choice-free days--a marvellous personality.

I remember a genuine outpouring of national grief, if of a relatively restrained 1960s nature, when she died. The fact that it happened days after the Aberfan mine disaster seemed to add to the rawness. It was also the first time that I recall the press saying that someone had died of cancer rather than the usual euphemistic 'long illness'.

Do watch the programme if you get a chance.

Ian.
