A friend of mine runs a small CD/DVD/Home Entertainment outfit not a million miles from here.

The other week he was saying that he and his staff are now having to take reductions in salary because of the downturn in business during the recession.

He will be typical of many others right now.

How dare our MPs demand an enormous pay rise?

Ian.

Ha , they want their pay rise cos the rules on second homes will be changed Razz

My main customer has dropped wages 10% and so has asked staff not to work 1/2 day a week, so in effect they get a day off every 2 weeks (10% work time reduction).

We elect our MPs and we can unelect them, of course!

It's an interesting loophole that's being adopted all over by businesses - it does, of course, mean that "final salary" pension payouts are less.

Yes, final salary schemes will be less so the taxpayer will have to make up the shortfall. In Royal Mail for example, new recruits are given only 24 or 30 hour weeks working. This means they pay less tax and National Insurance and will receive a much smaller final pension. So they will be able to claim benefits and indeed some claim FIS (Family Income Supplement) now as the wages are so low. Economics of the madhouse! Rolling Eyes
