I know. I’m a weak pathetic excuse for a human being: the “no Internet” thing that I committed to is not going strictly according to plan but in mitigation, I offer the fact that my make up is only of flesh and blood, and as such, am vulnerable to temptation, which amongst all the pleasures of life, is the one which it seems is most difficult to resist.

On to Radio 2 matters, and people far more interesting than myself. With my two favourite presenters (Alex and Chris) off having fun somewhere – both at the same time too – it feels like punishment for past evils. However; that leaves me with the other show I’ve been enjoying to its fullest extent of 90 minutes each morning over recent months- namely – The Sarah Kennedy Show. Gone is the old Sarah K, and in her place a new and vibrant Sarah K – full of beans- vivacious and lively with it: the music, thanks to “Julie the music” is brilliantly chosen and put together; all of that combined with “Dave the knees'” steady hand on the tiller, makes for a real Pollyanna of a Show just when we need it most. Brilliant!

It seems a pretty reasonable post to me.

Which part upset you, Rachel's breaking of her Lenten vows or a few kind words for Sarah?

What about someone like Elaine Paige or Parky as a replacement for SK when she goes? Sarah plays show tunes already so we could have a daily dose of "Les Mis" from EP or a daily dose of Jamie Cullum from Parky.

I think I'll email the controller now.....who is the controller these days anyway?

Can you really see either of those getting up at 4am every day of the week?

What, you mean because she wasn't praising Richard Allinson? Rolling Eyes

Well said Rachel, it's about time someone stood up for the unfairly maligned Miss K. Of course she's not to everyone's taste: who is?

I don’t know about that Mark- thus far six replies. What I have noticed about this board is the negativity. Any positive post, in connection with it seems, any presenter, is closely followed by a barrage of negative reaction, whether it be presenter A or B makes no difference. One can only assume that this board is like an executive stress-relief toy, where people can vent and fume for non-other than their own amusement. Perhaps it acts as a counter-balance to the reality of their inadequacies.

If you’ve not listened, and I mean properly listened to the SK show in its entirety over recent months, then you’re not really in a position to comment on my observations relating to the very much-improved SK Show.

I thought she sounded livlier too, I understand that she's not everybody's cup of tea but I do think she has improved lately.

There are a lot of negative posts on this forum, it would be nice if there were a few more positve threads like this with the whinges being confined to the 'gripes' section.

Thing is you cant like everybody and its rare you post to praise someone,i take the position that its only an hour and a half and shes off i wouldnt see her burned at the stake for that its a personal thing ive been listening to her for years and i dont see any change in style or content so i just tune out till 7 30.She keeps her spot because she pulls in an audience she must be doing something right its just not my thang Smile

The point about negativity is a valid one. This is a very civilised and friendly forum 90% of the time, but there's that old 10% that's like the record player stylus stuck in the groove, with the same rants and jibes about the same presenters repeating themselves over and over, until you want to storm over, pull the plug and throw the lot out of the window.

I try not to get involved. It's very hard, but I try.

I don't usually get to hear Sarah Kennedy in the morning. Just think yourselves lucky, some of you, that you don't have to endure the GMTV which is preferred by the majority chez nous. So I can't tell if she sounds like Polyanna, Polly Parrot or Polyfilla at the moment, but I do trust and respect Rachel's taste and judgment, apart from which the Music Played list does look good, varied and well balanced, and at 7 in the morning, when most people have more to do than sit and concentrate on a radio programme, unless they want to listen to the news on Radio 4, that's as much if not more than you can reasonably expect.

Without wanting to get all negative, Mark's "problem" is his, some say unhealthy, adulation of RA so there is no one else on R2 who will quite come up to those "standards".

Back to topic...........I care nothing for SK's program and I will turn over or off if I'm unlucky enough to be driving to work before 7:30 but I did catch her the other day and I agree - she did sound refreshed, vibrant, like she wanted to be there for a change.

I still turned it over though!! Very Happy

Matt or gloss?

Well, I hid the remote this morning but had to admit defeat when someone started singing along to The Pushbike Song.

So I've cheated and Listened Again: Winston Churchill impressions that make you want to hide, Parliament the colour of shortbread, bananas to avoid chafing, Jabberwocky party pieces, tea at the Ritz, Jo Stafford, Beth Rowley, The Carpenters, and a greeting of "You're drop dead gorgeous with a cherry on top"

No, she hasn't improved, really, and Julie gets a black mark for playing the PC version of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but she's put a sweet, sweet smile on my face. Smile

Any chance to hear Carpenters is to be applauded, and "Sweet Sweet Smile" is one of their jolliest.

I thought the "Matt or Gloss" story was funny, but got very confused when SK was talking about Thursday as yesterday! It's hard enough knowing what day of the week it is without her confusing us!!

Long may Sarah sail on.

Maybe it's just me getting older- I have just bought a beige jacket in the Debenhams sale, but I think the whole show is better than it used to be: this morning's was really funny too .. and the music - right there from my CD collection... perfect.

Angus-So I have a problem in your opinion.-an unhealthy adulation of Richard Allinson.

Are you my doctor then?-Have you ever met me ? The answer to both questions is No.

This is a message board and people are encouraged to post messages. Just because my opinion does not match yours does not make me in the wrong.

That's pretty much my view, too. I don't have any real axe to grind against her and I guess it's a case of "better the devil you know" in that early slot. It could be worse - it could be Evans! Shocked

I really don't like her summary of the newspaper stories though, and her take on current affairs is a bit...... er .......... biased to the right (dare I say it) but she's harmless enough. She does witter too much though, but maybe I'm biased because I really don't like cats!

Yes, fortunately rape doesn't affect me. As you see, it was a gorgeous evening yesterday here and we went for a good walk (2 hours). Quite cool when the sun eventually went down, though

I've done well to keep out of this one till now, but there's only so much a body can take. Wink

Regarding Rachel's original comments; yes, I will admit that over the last few months , on the odd occasion when I've listened to the Dawn Patrol Sarah has sounded a bit more lively, and even seems to have cut down on the ridiculous mispronunciations which used to irritate me so much. I almost thought she was growing on me...... heaven forbid!

Even the music seems to have improved; I know SK is little bothered by the actual musical content and it's probably left to her producer, but this week I've heard Joan Baez' sublime "Heartfelt Line or Two" and any show that plays that gets a thumbs-up from me.

Sadly I was reminded of what could have been (and IMHO should be) the other day when Sarah was "raped" if you'll forgive the phrase. The Dark Lord is simply streets ahead as a presenter, high time his talents were regularly available to a less nocturnal audience.

Slight improvement or not, I am still of the admittedly divisive opinion that Miss Kennedy would be better suited to a Sunday afternoon slot where she can witter about cats, make silly noises and bore people to death by describing her interminable holidays to her heart's content. Furthermore I'd be spared the regular whinges about getting up early, as if she's the only one who does! Rolling Eyes

Give me Sarah anyday over Allinson and his sneering "oh aren't I wonderful" attitude. Mark mayhew must be related to him, that's all I can think! Get well soon SK.

What a pleasant surprise to wake up to an alternative presenter (yet again) on Dawn Patrol this morning. I think RA should be offered the slot permanently since he's now a regular on-call substitute anyway.

Richard is ok, a decent enough cove, but his syle is better suited to a mid morning or afternoon slot. Sarah K 's new improved show is rather pleasant at that time of day, but as with most shows, it's really the music that makes it a good or not so good show. Music music music.

Not so sure about that one. You could have a show containing good music but linked by "the insufferable one" - which would render the show unlistenable!

Hi MID-Here I am-albeit a bit slow in responding-pressure of work sadly.

Allinson rocks-you bet he does.

Interesting to note to note that Toggy bailed out from this fantastic site because off your postings.

Mark, don't know who "MID" is, but if you are referring to me, your statement is libellous. I am not responsible for "Toggy" bailing out.
