Quote:
Andy Peebles weekday evening show on Smooth Radio in the northwest is to be networked on five additional stations from Monday 30 March. The newly networked show will broadcast from 8pm until midnight.

Listeners will be able to hear Peebles across London, the East and West Midlands, the North West and North East of England and Greater Glasgow as well as in the North West where he currently airs.

Smooth Radio’s Brand Programme Director Steve Collins said: “Andy has a wealth of radio experience and his show in the North West has grown from strength to strength and become a must listen across the region. Now the rest of the country will be able to experience this great show”.

GMG Radio has also confirmed the company is replacing Fiona Phillips' Sunday afternoon network show with local programming

____________

Also more changes happening.

I have to pose the all-important question: "Does anybody really care?". It's just another immensely bland national commercial radio network, after all.

I'm not convinced that GMG knows what "local programming" actually is. The same limited playlist, the generic station idents all glued together with "local" voices all out of the same jelly-mould, perhaps?

With a very few exceptions - Planet Rock being one - all commercial radio in the UK, whether national or regionally/locally franchised, is dire.

Looks like Lynn Parsons is leaving Smooth London and replaced with Dave Brown who is head of music at Smooth and a broadcaster.

I wonder where she'll go to now. I know I used to like hearing her on Radio 2. She was good when she covered Dawn Patrol and Richard Allinson's old late night radio 2 show. I rarely heard her regular show which followed Bob Harris' weekend show in the small hours of Sunday morning, save for those occasions when I fell asleep in the chair whilst listening to Bob Harris - Because of tiredness, not out of boredom I hasten to add!! To me it would be good if Radio 2 got her back on their books.
Sybil Ruscoe is another who should make her return to Radio 2.

I understand she wasn't heard on Radio 2 for a while as she had baby, then a big announcement she was joining Smooth Radio London. She's only been there two years. Nigel Williams seems to have disappeared of nights with Russell Pocket covering until Andy starts. Fiona Phillips has been dropped, but I don't think thats a big miss. More schedule changes happening at Smooth as I said", but a few big names have gone over the last few months. Keep an eye on Media Guardian..

Smooth Radio are at least trying to do something slightly different from the others & realise that a musical memory can stretch over several decades.
i wish they'd have another country show on there

No idea.
I did read that the prog director on Smooth was actually a country music fan, but they were not getting enough advertising during the show so they had to give it the chop

My experience of Smooth Radio was usually when I went to my sister's in Lancashire.

They played so much Michael Jackson stuff that they could have paid off his debts several times over!

Smooth radio when they launched wasx quite refreshing. They'd moved away from the soft bland soul Jazzfm had become & were playing quite a diverse selection of music from the last half century or so,
My recent excursions to the station have been rather dispriting . They appear to have gone back to the limited playlist of bland soul & disco they had after Jazz FM stopped playing Jazz
