April fools?
Just what I thought when I heard! It's a bold move, given Shearer's total lack of management experience - I wonder if reputation and charisma will save them from relegation? _________________ MiS |

What I don't understand is this: aren't "goals" the product of players kicking the ball in the right direction? Aren't they paid enough to know that a game needs goals in order for their club to maintain or improve its position in the league tables regardless of who the manager is?
In other words, the manager might be important for devising tactics but at the end of the day it's the players who have to kick the ball around the field.
Or am I way off field, so to speak? _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

colby,
The players need to play in a manner that retains possession of the ball long enough to get into a scoring situation, and possession depends on good passing of the ball. A good manager and particularly a good touchline manager, with his experience, can watch the opposition and instruct his team on how best to organise themselves, how to defend themselves and where the killer passes will work. This is where 4-4-2 and 3-5-1-1 etc comes in
See, I haven't mentioned goals yet. They just come from playing well. |

I think there is a real possibility of Newcastle being relegated this season.
Their final run in is full of difficult games and quite frankly some of the players they have are very ordinary indeed.
As John Wright quite rightly points out they need to be to organised sufficiently well to be able to retain possession because if you don't you will never score enough goals to hurt the opposition.
I was at Newcastle yesterday as a Chelsea fan and quite frankly Newcastle were never in the game-they could not string more than 5/6 passes together. Michael Owen is a pale shadow of his former self.
Re the Geordie fans they never really got behind their team-the mood around the place was "we might be lucky enough to get a draw today " which says it all in my opinion.
The Championship beckons for the Toon Army I'm afraid. |

By complete contrast, the second F1 Grand Prix of the season was won again by Jenson Button (Team Brawn) in what turned out to be a very eventful race, even though storms had to bring about a premature end to the competition at 31 laps. This is turning out to be a good season! _________________ (signature and avatar removed, violated forum Rule 2.) |

That was definitely a Michael Owen goal yesterday that was 'cleared off the line!'
LFC deserved the late, late goal! Now let's see how Man U perform today. |

Any slips up by Man U and possibly Liverpool then my team Chelsea FC are ready to pounce.
We are back to playing good football under the Dutch master. |

I see my prediction about Newcastle (April 4th above) was correct. However, I said LFC (my team) would win the PL. Alas, too many dropped points at home by drawing cost LFC dear. |
