Sadly I find Sarah Kennedy's daily newspaper review boring, stale and unexciting.

Why can't she cast the net wider and come up with a different newspaper perspective or world segment in the review such as the stories undernoted-today 30-3-09-very brief details below summarising rather longer winded amusing world news headlines etc.

UNITED STATES-A club in Oakdale, California is holding a Testical Festival, during which people will dine on 400lb of bull testicles. Tickets cost £30 and the cash is being donated to the Oakdale Cowboy Museum.

FRANCE-A French pole vaulting champion has run naked with his pole around the streets of Paris and posted the video on the internet in the hope of finding a new sponsor. Romain Mesnil, who won silver at the 2007 World championship in Osaka, did not have his contract renewed by Nike.

RUSSIA-A group of Russian women have become internet stars after performing a synchronised swimming routine at their desks. The women, who work for a firm of architects, beat hundreds of other entries in a competition to win £3,500.

Come on Radio 2-drag the Dawn Patrol Show and it's various features into the current decade.

Nah, the beauty of Sarah is she's funny when she's not even trying to be.

She's definitely a source of amusement when she's attempting to be funny. Her so-called "newspaper review" is a joke! Laughing

Laughing I'm just imagining her reading out those stories. I reckon she'd be game for a laugh.

But...

By applying the same rule of thumb that says I have a good face for radio, I think stories like those are best covered by one of the more obscure news and entertainment satellite/cable tv channels (or perhaps five).

I suppose she could always slip one in as a "...and finally:" now and then but you would just as quickly get bored with those stories being read out as with the real front page newspaper stories.

I've never understood why, when we get a news summary every half hour, rolling news if we want it every fifteen minutes on breakfast television, and Radio 4 if we want a little more depth, it's necessary to spend 15 minutes reading headlines and snippets out of the day's newspapers. I certainly wouldn't go and buy one on the strength of it.

I for one really appreciate Sarah's newspaper review. Ok, she may stumble through some of it, and find it hard to disguise her opinions, but I find it a great way to kick start the day. It gives me a good cross-section of some of the papers that I wouldn't otherwise get to read. Thanks Sarah!

I object to the way she'll dismiss a given story on the grounds of "I'm glossing over that because you know what my thoughts are on that subject...". How dare she? Whatever happened to editorial impartiality?

It's only a quick shuffty, Mark, covering pretty much all of the newspapers in ten minutes. It's ok to be serious for ten minutes. Those examples you give are not interesting , not funny and too down-market for Radio 2 - very much from the shallow-end of the journalistic gene pool.

Sarah paper review is worth a listen. Why does she need to keep bringing up the top news items of the day. I like the washing machine one today ( Tuesday )

I guess it's related to the fact that the feature is designed to reflect on the...er..... most notable news stories of the day according to newspaper editors and sub-editors. I could be wrong though.

If Mark had posted them today (1st April) then they would have been ok but like the Bull in the testicle story it was just too soon- a classic case of premature emasculation...Smile
