It's half term soon and Zoe is back covering for Ken from Monday 6th April. I did enjoy her shows last time.

You're a bit late to the party, Mark: your pal Iain Smith told us about this some time ago.

I think Ken should be made to stay to save us from ZB, it's a pity the usual Ken stand-ins have been ejected.

I welcome Zoe's sitting in for Kenneth. I think she works well in the slot, as she proved last year. At least she does yell into the mike and play stupid games like others do.

She's all right, but she made a hash of the Popmaster tie break (but then again, who wouldn't?)

This little phrase, from Gillian Reynolds in Sunday's Telegraph, might point the way forward and alarm a few people at the same time...

"Zoe's going to be a new Radio 2 weekend breakfast presenter, but all week she's sitting in for Ken Bruce...

So is Do Mutta getting the chop then? Not sure which is worse!

I'd be quite happy for that to happen - especially if she were given the Saturday 10.00am-1.00pm slot.

I would - Gillian is a very sensible woman who writes and talks intelligently about Radio, unlike many of her press colleagues!

True; a pity it's virtually all about R4 but I think her judgement is to be trusted. I do wish she'd get a new picture in the DT though, her hair always looks like the cat's been at it!

To return to the subject, sorry Zoe doesn't cut it with me. I really don't know why, she doesn't irritate me like certain other female presenters do but there's something about the cadences of her voice and speech patterns which makes me change stations after about 5 minutes.

I suspect that one reason is that no-one (sorry, not even the much-vaunted Richard Allinson) does the Ken Bruce show like Ken Bruce.

Totally agree and it's a sign that he's one of our great broadcasters.

Was Zoe asking the wrong questions to Jeremy at 11.30am, or was he being a little sarcastic? The bond isn't there as it is with Ken.

I have been really enjoying the variety of music played by Zoe this week.
I find when Ken is on it's nearly always Keane , Coldplay, Take That, Robbie Williams and Travis which gets very boring day after day after day.
Gary Bones has been the producer this week aswell so I'm wondering why the music has been a lot more varied than Kens.

Quite agree--but any talk of adjustment to R2's weekend schedule makes me react thus:

Hands off SOTSix!

"This is the 21st Century".

Oh for goodness sake - what sort of argument is that?

Just because it is the 21st c does NOT mean that all radio shows have to be full of inane texts from Joe Public!! It does NOT mean that originality and broadcasting skills have to fly out of the window!

Ian

She used to do a late night TV show on Tyne Tees in the early 80s.

Meaning that because it's the 21st century we therefore should have more talking and text reading? I'm not with you Mark.

This is how Radio is now. Quick communication by Joe Public. Also bringing the listener closer to the shows, and make them more interactive? I think some of you only want to hear just music and no broadcaster.

No they don't , well not to this extent, it's a fill-in for standins who have no skills at being entertaining without resorting to this format.

I have no objection to some listener interaction but to fill most of the time just reading out texts / emails about a topic they just thought of or found in the paper is simply boring.

I have listened every day this week to Zoe Ball- I have thoroughly enjoyed her broadcasts-great music played also and much better interaction with the listeners than the usual mainstay.

Still defies any sense or logic for folk such as Nod to listen in, clearly not enjoy it and then come on here telling us all how bad it is.

Not really Mark, as Nod has said he thought the music was okay which I must admit I thought it was as well.

I shut off to a lot of what she was saying though as I had things to do, but the music was good. It was the usual producer though.

I listen to KB and enjoy it so I try the standins until I've had enough, I come on here and give my point of view, that sounds logical to me.

Defies logic why you listen to R2 when you seem to dislike most shows except the standins but that is up to you.

I would be more than happy if either Simon Mayo or Zoe Ball were to be given this slot fulltime in place of the current mainstay.

The broadcaster(s) talking about the music is fine by me too! It's a shame that this seems to be sectioned off as 'specialist' shows, and daytime is just reading out texts. And before anyone says Wogan just reads emails out, well, he's an exception because it's the delivery and wit that others lack!

Thanks to the listeners for those emails which makes the shows witty. I wonder how Breakfast will sound when Wogan goes?

I'm afraid that, whilst I still appreciate Wogan's Irish wit and irreverence, I do find the emails (especially those that`are based on limericks) to be very boring these days.

I've been listening for long enough to have a pretty good idea that Lynn Bowles emanates from a place called Splott, too. The fact that I have retained such information surely proves my point. The same topics, gags, emails, anecdotes, etc., just go round and round, day in day out.

And the music is nowhere near as good as when JW or RA stands in.

Pretty much the same with me, and it doesn't just apply to KB . The only real exception is the Dawn Patrol; the rare occasions when it's covered by Alex Lester (or at least part of the time-slot is) are the only ones when I can listen to it in full and not keep channel-hopping or reaching for the CD wallet.

Getting better though, I managed to keep the DP on for nearly an hour the other week ; mind you I was out of the cab unloading for most of it! Wink

Back to Zoe; like Sarah she has too many "umms" and "errs" which annoy me, though to be fair perhaps a few are inevitable if you're only acting as a stand-in and trying to work to a prescribed format.

In short, better than Liza Tarbuck and Aled Jones, not in Allinson's class by a mile.

Finally; I concur wholehartedly with colby's comments on WUTW. The show is now a tired and pale shadow of its former self.
